Even when Mo put us 3-2 up i knew there was no way we were holding on to that lead. 2 points thrown away by poor team selection imo
He trying to rotate the squad and protect players from burn out.
But we don’t have the squad depth to do that.
Quansah shouldn’t be anywhere near the first 11 - he needs a loan to build his confidence.
I also think Gomez will probably leave to find first team football because he isn’t going to get it here on a regular basis.
Hopefully Ali will be back soon, because we can’t gift goals like that. Those 2 points could come back to haunt us at the end of the season.
The likes of Gomez and Quansah are decent squad players, players like that can do a job for the team just as long as you havent got too many of them in the line up. The more of them you have in your starting XI the weaker the team gets. Now sometimes ccircumstances dictate and you havent got a choice but yesterday we did, Trent was clearly fit enough to play.
Looking at our right hand side Gordon must have thought Christmas had come early, not only did we have Gomez and Quansah who have both got a mistake in them but Mo too, and as good as Mo is going forward he has never been the most enthusiastic when it comes to tracking back
Poor team selection last night has not only cost us 2 points but given our rivals a massive lift, with a derby game at Goodison coming up, in fact with the last ever derby game at Goodison coming up that sword of Damocles is now dangling above our heads, another performance like last night and our seemingly unassailable lead could be halved within the space of 3 days.
Lets hope Arne doesnt come to regret handing that team sheet in yesterday for the rest of his life. The title looked done and dusted Sunday, it's certainly not now.
I think you are over simplifying it Yakka, Trent is hardly a great defender and where was he on Newcastle’s third? It was Kelleher’s error but pressure on the player by the right back would also have stopped that goal as he was unchallenged. Only thing I would have done differently was perhaps play Gomez at right back rather than the other way round as Gomez is a better right back than central defender. Also, we really don’t know if Trent was fully fit or being rushed back because of the Bradley injury.
I will say again that the ref allowed them to play with a higher intensity buy flagging our fouls but not theirs. They didn’t start out like that as we controlled the start, their intensity increased as the half went on. A different ref and we would have won that match. Newcastle away at this point is a difficult fixture, City and Arsenal also had trouble there so I’m not sure I agree with the narrative it was a guaranteed win.
