You could well be right mate. Thing is, while a 4-5-1 variant was the right decision, I'm not entirely sure it would have made that much difference. Poulsen and Lucas would still have been battered in CM and while Gerrard may have been able to link-up better with the stiker if he was in the hole, it's hard to see us controlling the midfield. City just looked better than us in almost every position. Joe Hart looks in great form as well.

The only positive from this game IMO is that perhaps, just perhaps it might bring everyone back down to reality...

The squad has only improved marginally, while on the bench we have gone backwards..
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.

In attack, there was enough space there for us to exploit but we didn't make the right choices in our passing or with our runs, particularly first half.

Forced rather than unforced errors led to loss of possession though. They pressed the hell of us, made easier because we played 4-4-2. We only managed 41% possession, poor for a team chasing the game from early on.

fook me - i went off for an hour, came back, and it looks like all hell has broken loose....
(did yer man kill himself - anyone know ?)
i think i've calmed down a bit....-ish......but a few thoughts spring to mind:
a. 442 : eh, why ? any reason it would work for us and no other team on the planet ?
b. hate to say this, but i think Reina shoulda got the ball before tevez MISSED it and still got credited with the goal
c. agger was stuffed all night, and we could see it right from the start, so why did adam johnson have freedom to torment him all night ? it certainly won't do agger's confidence any good at all.
d. richards was an accident waiting to happen and we didn't capitalise on it.
e. they have a bloody good keeper at the moment, not least because he can keep the likes of given out of the team
f. we don't have a very good squad
and last of all
g. we were heartless and clueless there tonight

By far our biggest failure IMO was not the inability to keep possession, but our lack of organization in the non-possession phase.

We had no organization out there...The sight of Ngog chasing around in MF had to be the most pathetic!

How the hell Roy Hodgson is gonna get them out of the defensive drab crappy football Benitez played on a regular basis is beyond me, he will never be given half the money Benitez was, that man has left this team in tatters and then he gets a job at inter  he should have gone to Rushden and Diamonds do me a favour.

Carra has no legs anymore,Skertal is good but not great,Johnson is ok, no left back of any note apart from Aurelio.

Kuyt is a load of :censored: and should go home to daddy, Lucas is absolute toilet paper (Happy shopper at that).

TBH Roy is gonna have to work wonders and he's gonna need all the help he can get, i for one wish you well cos ur gonna need it son.

Ah, so it's no longer the case that we have the players to challenge?

forget about being top four were in the bottom four. Now with have no mash no aqua no joe cole for another two games. And a really tricky tie in turkey with a slender 1-0 lead. Why have we let everything go to the last minute as in loaning and selling players its an absolute shambles.

Disappointed with the result tonight but as bad as we where City weren't much better.

We had more shots on target and more attempts then them but some of our play was just hopeless. Simple things like first touch and easy passes let us down. Things will get better with time

We move on

What do you expect ? Despite the fact we have got Torres to agree to "Return to work" (and thats all he has done btw) we are still a club under huge transition and I'm sorry to burst some fans bubbles but sadly there are going to be more games like tonight before we turn the corner...............

I took my 6 year old son to his very first game last Thursday and he embraced the club without reservation, recrimination or expectation. For him it was simply the thrill of being there watching his idols.

Some of us have forgotten what it's like to simply do that.

Walk on .............

Jus tell litte Jacob not to grace these pages Ian.. he'll go un-heard like his wise-ol dad..  :no

Hey but I'm listening.. and you are right - we need a lot of fiixing and it has to start in the hierarchy first

We look very short of class  as a team, and i fear we could be in for a struggle this season. The lact of creative talent is alarming and we dont have any funds to do anything about it. Im hoping for a turn around once Cole, Gerrard and Torres start to click but the squad is far to thin on quality for my likeing.
