The lack of any creativity while on the ball in this game disturbs me the most. The answer: A midfielder with pace to back off defenders when he has the ball and draw serious attention away from Gerrard and Torres. Sub answer: Get Lucas off the field.

I wanted Rafa to succeed but the players and the current manager don't need this type of attitude from the fans. The same way Rafa didn't need all the stick he was getting from the fans last season too. No one wants us to do badly even if we do have Roy as our manager so why come off like you do.. Not talking about you in particular but in just saying in general. Last year when Rafa was gettin it wrong some people were quick to say I told ya so etc etc and now it seems like it's the same way with Roy just a different group of people. It's frustrating to read that stuff on the boards. Two years in a row of this sh!t is gonna be too much really. If you guys wanted to enforce the backing of the manager and players on the forum last year what entitles you to go back on that and disrespect the current manager?

To clarify this isn't like a direct post to you Igor, I'm just sayin.

We missed Masch so much today, Gerrard dissapeared for most of the match, Lucas again looked like a 14 year old in the centre, Kuyt has seemed to loose another half yard of pace, most annoying thing was just how narrow we was, with players like toure(s) de jong and kompany, you cant just walk through them....it just doesnt work

That's a great post. The only thing I disagree with is I thought Stevie played well and was very involved, he was just so deep he couldn't link well with the 2 strikers.

Completely agree about the width problem - Jovanovic kept having to come inside to get the ball which made it easy for their three central midfielders.

The fundamental problem for us lack of investment, and that directly relates to our debt and interest payments. We are on our knees and another few punches will knock us out. We are no longer a top level squad - we've too many players who haven't been replaced, while others get older and our free transfer look like exactly that. We our now a top 7 club - it's not far from here to mid-table obscurity and then who knows. I do think that those that haven't should listen to Igor and join the SOS, at least SOS are pushing for change, sometimes naively, but learning all the time.

Not to use him as a scapegoat, but he is no Javier and certainly no Xabi. Having said that, if on the wing there was a midfielder with pace, the club could still win games. The main problem is there is nobody with pace to make defenders worried about anything.

I agree about the Stevie comment, but again, being so deep, theres not much point spraying 50 yard balls to our "front line" against the strength and pace city have.

Massive tactical error combined with lack of personell cost us tonight, which, to be honest is :censored:

scary, with any luck, Roy will learn from this, well he has to because if he keeps making making mistakes like tonight, the red tide wont be forgiving, which is a shame as I dont think he will get much of a chance to prove himself, because all the fans are gutted still from last season, so a start like this, may aswell just get the can of petrol and swan vesta out for him.

You are one deluded individual. Hodgson is not and never has been fit to lace Rafa's boots and if you can't see that, having witnessed the total lack of control in our matches so far, you've less brain power than even I would have given you credit for.

1. Man-Marking at set-pieces. Only the long-in-the-tooth p*ssheads on here wanted us to play this outdated, inferior and (in the context of this season so far) absolutely disasterous system. You only need to open your eyes and see that it gives so much impetus to the attacker, as the defender is being pushed backwards towards his own goal. All this sh*t I keep reading on here about "zonal marking is W*nk because the players have to make a standing jump" is all well and good until they actually realise that it's much f*cking easier to jump from standstill than when being pushed backwards with the attacker's momentum keeping you down.

The amount of free headers every team has had (even Rabotnicki, I might add) against this utterly incompetent system is making me dread playing everyone, easpecially the scum with Vidic. (What price for a hattrick by the scruffy c*nt?)

Any side that gets their heading into gear will batter us and make tonight's scoreline look like a good result.

2. 4-4-2. It's W*nk. Only deluded dickhead England fans think that this is a good setup. No top side ever uses this system with any sustained joy because the midfield gets cut to ribbons. To turn up to Man City and play 4-4-2, with their steroided players knocking the f*ck out of us all over the park, is unforgivably stupid. (If Hodgson "understands" the Premiership, f*ck it - ignorance is definitely bliss.)

3. Tactics. Where were they? What did we do differently following each of the goals? Why wasn't Hodgson crucified for not making any changes before the 70 minute mark? Pachecho is a God, isn't he? Surely he should have come on instead of Babel? What was he thinking of, putting Aurelio - a defender - on for Jovanovic - an attacker? How can this be? He's clueless, right?

Any decent manager would have quickly realised that the system needed changing after 30 minutes. Nothing we did worked and the midfield was overrun throughout the match. We should have dropped back to 4-2-3-1 with Poulsen playing DM alongside Lucas, and Gerrard, Kuyt and Jovanovic supporting Torres.

4. Man management.

A fat lot of good that little golden nugget of horse sh*t has brought us so far.

Disgraceful performance and very much like last season.

We struggled to keep the ball against Arsenal and in the first half against Trabzonspor, and tonight that's essentially what cost us. You keep effective possession, the defence comes under much less pressure, or pressure that is easier to deal with.

We made so many elementary mistakes with the ball and with our movement that meant we rarely sustained a meaningful attack. Even Gerrard - in the beginning - was far too eager to take the direct route with his passing when we needed an authorative but calming influence in the middle. Go wide, drop off, go back, and find the right pass. It reminded me of England during the world cup. The direct game was even less successful because Ngog and Torres don't have great upper body streng and were competing against a VERY athletic and physical Man City. Lucas was non-existent, the worst player on the pitch and so obviously not good enough it's becoming painful to watch. Not far behind him were Kuyt and Agger, and then Jovanovic and Ngog.

I agree with some of that Benny. I have to say I thought City were superb, I think we may be hearing a few I told you so's from Mick as the season goes on because if they continue to 'gel' and build on that performance they're not going to be far off come May. Milner already looks like a great buy - he was everywhere tonight - he's got the engine of Gerrard 10 years ago and a great football brain. I thought Barry was excellent as well. With their setup they pressed the lives out of us the whole game. Tevez is brilliant at the pressing game - he's at the defence like his life depends on it, and the whole match if one of our players beat someone there was another City player there to back him up - somewhat like us in the second half of 08/09. Mancini is singing the 'attitude' mantra as well. I thought they were excellent although me made it easier by playing a 4-4-2 - a mistake in anyones book.
