Will he go defensive with this sort of line-up, or use some of the reserves (Kelly, babel, ayala etc?)

Reina
johnson Carra Greek  Kelly/Aurelio

??? (Babel?)    Lucas  Poulsen  Jovanovic
           Cole
                   Ngog

i think kuyt will also be missing cos Roy won't want to cup tie him.
i think the team will look something like the above and im very worried about this tie.

I honestly think we'll just about scrape through.

If we go out though... the confidence in the squad will be heavily affected and the media will
be straight on our back with all the doom and gloom.

Cup tie him? Our club's like a fire sale at the moment!!

Fair but sad point though!

yeah i know.. its mental.  im not too sure what the rules are for being cup tied, but i think thats why kuyt was left out of the last game.

Its sad to see Aqua going out on loan but i doubt thats the end of it.  i wouldn't be surprised it Kuyt and Mascherano are also gone in the next week.  Also Nemeth is gone too.

I really hope Roy has some players lined up and he is just waiting for the money to come in from sales.

Liverpool FC rocked as Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and other stars left out of Turkey trip

LIVERPOOL jetted out to Turkey for their crucial Europa League play-off without their inspirational captain and leading goalscorer.

Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres were the highest profile absentees from the 20-man squad that left John Lennon Airport this morning bound for Trabzon.

Gerrard has a slight back problem and though it is not serious, it was decided two long flights and another 90 minutes is not what he needs at this stage of the season.

He is expected to be fit for Sunday’s Premier League clash with West Brom at Anfield but Manager Roy Hodgson did not want to risk him for the game with Trabzonspor.

Torres, meanwhile, is being nursed back to full fitness after injuring himself in the World Cup final and Hodgson does not want to over face him too soon.

The Spaniard played for 78 minutes in Monday’s 3-0 defeat at Manchester City, four days after a lively 45-minute cameo in their first leg against Trabzonspor.

Milan Jovanovic also misses out for the first time in a competitive game since joining the Reds this summer after he picked up a slight foot problem against City; Daniel Agger is another to have stayed at home.

Joe Cole, however, has travelled after missing the trip to Eastlands because of suspension and will be eager to atone for missing a penalty at Anfield last week that could have made this trip a little less demanding.

Maxi Rodriguez and Danny Wilson have also been left out of today's travelling squad due to illness and injury.

Javier Mascherano has also been left out of the squad following his refusal to play for the Reds at Manchester City on Monday.

Full squad – Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Aurelio, Lucas, Rodriguez, Kuyt, Babel, Cole, Wilson, Kelly, Ngog, Spearing, Poulsen, Shelvey, Kelly, Skrtel, Gulacsi, Ecclestone, Hansen.

it's my birthday tomorrow so i'm gonna be slaughtered anyway. probably won't remember sod all of the game which judging by the proposed lineup may not be a bad thing. :D

i think one away goal will be enough to see us through though. i don't see them scoring three.

Gonna be tough with this squad.

I'd hope to see:

                             Reina

Johnson          Carra           Skrtel        Kelly/Aurelio

                     Poulsen     Lucas

                             Cole

          Kuyt                                    Babel

                            Ngog

If Kuyt doesn't play then we can assume there is a very real chance he will end up at Inter come the end of the month.

In this game, I hope we see our players passing the ball patiently and slowly build up some attacks rather than the barbarian approach we tried against Man City. It just doesn't work. :(

It will be interesting to see if Kuyt plays or not - if he doesnt then he is on his way as well and the transfer window ending is getting closer and closer .

i honestly believe spending a lot of money on a creative midfielder in the mould of Alonso would solve so many of our problems.

It would allow Gerrard to play behind Torres were them two can be very effective as we've seen.  Cole could be deployed on the right were im sure him and Johnson could provide a real spark.

The creative mid could help the defenders out and avoid hoofing to Ngog.

I just think that one good player in that position could solve so many issues on the field.

So Insua isn't even in the squad again although we have several players missing? He isn't injured though is he? Surely he must still be on his way out then (not that I miss him too much mind).

On the game itself, I think it will be very tricky with that team, but as others have mentioned a goal for us should do the trick. Could be a tough one though.
