On another note did anyone see how much space the sparta defenders left on the flanks? We had nobody exploiting that really apart from johnson in parts of the second half.

I don't whether anybody will like this but we definetly need someone to control the midfield, win some second balls and not get pushed off it so easily. If we're gonna persist in playin through the centre then no wonder we wanted charlie adam

This game was the perfect example of how thin how squad is.  No strength in depth.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

this

away from Europe first leg, get the draw, back to Anfield then through. Hopefully it goes accorrding to lan and we can forget about this performance

we're too limited with strikers in Europe at the moment and it's showing. Anything less than the first 11 and we go flat, that's not Kenny's fault
All round the fields of Anfield Road

we do and his name's gerrard.

this game actually shows even more so than others, how much he means to the team's dynamic when they take the field. lucas and raul couldnt really pass forward as sparta's players closed down quickly and they closed down well.

further down the line when we play organized teams that press hard and press often, without the right personnel playing we are going to get found out.

I agree but nothing was served up for our striker anyway, all i saw was a few punts up field, many useless badly weighted passes into the channel or balls into him that he had no chance to control or do anything with.

We had no creativity at all tonight, cole clearly is the new harry kewell.

This side is crying out for a world class playmaker. Should be number 1 priority spunk all our cash on summer buy.

Gobsmacked by that performance tonight...but gobsmacked in a bad way!!

We were absolutely dire and showed them far too much respect!!

I really feel that Kenny got the team selection and tactics wrong tonight!

We offered nothing going forward and watching us pass it around at the back and then backwards and then sideways was just dull. Meireles who has been brilliant recently was completely anonymous? Maxi was useless? Kuyt was again dreadful and surely needs to be dropped. He offers nothing from a wide position and so many moves break down because of his poor control and passing. Ngog was also pretty poor and didn't hold the ball up well!

As for Joe Cole..he looks overweight, off the pace and just dreadful.

I really hope the 'King Kenny Effect' hasn't worn off already because the team was shocking tonight and I was bored stiff watching the game!!

Just give a few of the younger players a chance. Why not Suso? Why not Pacheo? Just for the final 10-15 minutes? What message does it send to these young players when fat knackers like Cole get onto the pitch?

Wilson did well..but we so miss Agger at the back and Gerrard driving the team forward! I am sure we will blow them away at Anfield...but that's not the point. Performances as bad as tonight's stall any positive momentum that could be building!!

Poor all round from the management and the team.

Completely agree mate but simple as this we dont seem to have an 'understudy' for him at all do we?

Meireles is class attacking but too light in the tackle whereas lucas has improved but still in my view better going forward than being shoehorned in as a 'defensive midfielder' which he's pretty decent at and happens to be one of the best first teamers in that position which says a lot about that department in terms of depth.

Excellent post!

Now that the Kenny initial effect is fading we need to try and rebrand ourselves as an all going attacking team. Stop thinking conservative stop playing defensive minded players ,better crash and burn trying then having to endure those pathetic performances as Today. Kenny can't win with using Rafa tactics and Roy's cowardness ,go for it all bench the "walking dead" ,improvize ,give new players a chance ,mix it and shake it .worst case we won't win the PL this season.

There is no way around it. That was dire. Kenny got his team selection wrong, and few of the players come out with much credit.

0-0 away is OK I guess, but that performance certainly wasn't. We needed to put this tie to bed tonight, so that next week we could rest players before the weekend, but not to be I'm afraid.

I didn't get to see it because it was at noon here... had to work.  Was somewhat following the gamecast and it sounded like we were garbage.  Couldn't get much going offensively.  Can't win if you don't shoot.  I think Kenny has made some great changes to the squad, moving certain players around and has made it work, but today It seems he was trying new things and they didn't work out.  Now he knows and he won't do it again.  Wilson hasn't really got to play yet, so sticking him at left to play up the wing I don't reckon was too smart as a CB, but it was worth a try.  It worked for Johnson, but I think that makes a bit more sense.  Meireles is a good player but he needs good players around him.  He needs to get the chance to have the opportunity or he won't be able to do much.  He thrives off people giving him good balls and off people making the right runs, so having him in a team like this, you just can't expect much out of him.  Ngog is an anti-football player.  He just wastes space.  It would be better to play with 10 men then 11 with him.  Cole is just coming back, Maxi and Kuyt haven't been playing well either, so if you really look at the squad, the only good players on the pitch that we could truly depend on were Reina, Soto, Carra, Johnson and Lucas in my opinion.  You could know that they were going to do the same job they do and they earned us a clean sheet.

Now like I said earlier, I missed the game except for watching a bit on my phone, but after seeing the lineup I was expecting a 0-0 draw.

I've  raised doubts before in this forum about whether Kenny today still has what it takes to revive Lfc back to the former glory days like under his first tenure and I was subsequently abused and lambasted for it. Now after last night's game and the kind of defensive football we've been playing since he took over (I'm not complaining about the scorelines on paper), ,many things are still seriously wrong.

We all know Kenny is at least a 100 times better than RH, but by just looking at the way Pool has been playing without comparing to RH's  Liverpool, since the first game vs Man U to S.Prague game , we're not entertaining to watch and to summarise in a few words, we show too much respect to every opponent and just depend on counter attacks to grab the goals. This kind of football is only for weak sides playing against strong opponents at their opponents' backyard hoping to poach a goal and create an upset win. I've been a Kopite fanatic for 35 years and I can't believe what I'm watching.

Our beloved LFC still has too many deep underlying problems as fans realise now. After last night's game, I think it will take at least another 3 seasons to put things right and start talking about winning the league with Kenny.  I would love to see Kenny handed the job on a long term basis in the summer and for fans all over the world to see whether he still has what it takes like he was before. It would be a terrible waste for Kenny to make expensive multi million signings of Suarez and Carroll, reviving the Boot Room, giving us fans a positive outlook of the future and then all crashed down like the World Trade Centre by Kenny opting to leave or not offered that long term contract. The bloke needs to give himself and the owners too, need to give him the chance to see what he can eventually do. So I'm looking forward to this future outcome.

I'm happy with our defence (we've been playing defensive football since Kenny took over anyway and doing quite well), our striking options up front are excellent with Suarez and Carroll coming soon but I think it is our midfiled faculty that needs an overhaul and I pray that Kenny will overcome this with a few more signings that are the Suarez of midfielders and wingers in the summer.

Please feel free to type your views on my comments, no foul words please.
