Secondly, on current form he doesn't deserve starting the match IMO. Bringing him on in the 60th minute or something maybe better for us and him.

I've noticed also that Henderson has looked much better when coming off the bench too. That said, I'd start him on the right instead of Kuyt being there. I think Kuyt offers no more than Henderson on the right, but Henderson has a tendency (which I think will be good for this game) to drift inside and make up the numbers in CM. If Citeh play a 3 man central midfield (not sure if they do) this would deffo help out Adam and Lucas. That said if Silva operates on their left Henderson would have to cover Johnson and track Silva. I think I'd give Maxi another go on the left ahead of Downing on current form and play Kuyt behind Suarez.

------------------------ Reina

----Johno-------Skittle--------Agger---------Enrique

----Hendo--------Adam------Lucas-------------Maxi
-------------------------Kuyt

-----------------------Suarez

I am not against Maxi playing but that midfield 4 is too slow for me, we will need some pace for this game.
Bellamy has to start.

That's a fair point about the midfield being too slow.

Also forgot, Bellamy may have a point to prove against Mancini and could be well up for this one. Yeah, him or Maxi then. I'd probably edge Maxi to start, his goal and first half performance against Chelsea warrants it IMO. Yes, the lad does have a tendency to drift out of the game (which is my only major worry about him tbh) but like many others have said, his movement is second to none. He's an intelligent player, good passer of the ball and knows were there onion bag is.

Perhaps guile over speed maybe the order of the day against this lot?

Personally, I would love to see our lot LAMP into that little spanish ku.nt Silva. HE'S the playmaker. HE makes them tick. Feckin' norse him out out of it from the first minute and that's 50% of the battle won. They're cack at the back as well....

Little harsh on Silva there.

I think he's been the best player in the league this season, and he doesn't cause trouble.  He's actually quite a humble guy.  He's not the one that goes out and says we're gonna beat these guys because they aren't good enough, he just says We will challenge for the title as best we can because we have good players.

Speaks the way a professional should, plays the way a professional does, and regardless of what club he plays for I've got no problem having players like that in our league.

But you are correct.  he does make them tick, and we need to figure out a way to stop him.

Anybody seeing us go back to our formation that worked well last season?

                   Reina

          Carra  Skrtel  Agger

  Johnson                       Enrique

                    Lucas
           Adam        Bellamy/Maxi

                    Carroll/Bellamy
             Suarez

Could see both Bellamy and Carroll starting this game, but with Carroll in it seems Downing should be in.  Maxi played great last week tho and linked up so well with Suarez, so it seems we wouldn't want to leave him out either.  Wouldn't be surprised to see the same lineup as last week, but once again I've got no clue who will be in.

And I know its a lot of ifs and buts....

BUT IF we had have beat Sunderland, Swansea and Norwich at home we would be going into this game knowing that a win would but us second, ahead of United and just 3 points behind City  :(

Personally Dundalk I don't think they are ridiculous if's and but's. All three games really should have been put to sleep by half time. The Kop was also missing from those matches and that needs to change especially for today. Changes in ownership, players and management all have an affect and in the main we have responded well with some frustrations in a limited amount of time.Let's face it we could also have beaten United if we hand had any sort of luck. This team can challenge but they have to believe and so do we.

Same team as last week should start. The tempo needs to be very high and Bellamy and Maxi can help to provide that.

Its strange but some how I am more confident in this match than against lesser lights and you get the impression the players have a similair attitude. Lately we are a big game team and today is a big game. Everyone at Anfield will be up for this match. We shouldnt win on paper but its possible we will, and I think we will as well. There are so many match ups but Lucas V Toure should be ding dong as their lad is beast of footballer and Lucas will be snapping at his heels. Really looking forward to it. Its not always seen as appropriate but if we do lose this match its one in the neck for United so I will take comfort in that. At this point City are my second team most weeks anyway  :D. I think we will win 3-1.

Valid point. I don't go the game and I don't know what demographic does, OOters, day-trippers, Norwegians or locals but watching as an "arm chair expert", I think the atmosphere is dross, I really do. Is it any wonder why the lads play a game when the likes of the Mancs or Arsenal come to town - with the crowd 'up for it'. Then the Swansea's and Norwich's of this world visit and you can hear a pin drop, the crowd are no better than the team IMO. They're only 'up for it' when the big boys role into town - hence, we'll probably get a good result today.

f**k me...listening to ESPN right now, the stats for Citeh this season are unbelievable...20 goals between Aguero and Dzeko this season; best goal difference since the 1880's at this stage of the season......then again, they haven't beaten us at Anfield since 2003 :)

City have been far from impressive this year when it comes to performance ,They are just deadly and clinical in front of goal and that is why they manage to win games they are out played.

We would get our chances we just need to make sure we take them.
