Since our strikers are out we need a very attack minded setup.

                                 Reina

    Johnson         Carra        Kyrgiakos      Agger

                              Mascherano

                    Gerrard             Aquilani

      Benayoun                                        Babel

                                Pacheco

I will bet any money though that Aquilani doesnt play and Lucas will sit in midfield and be invisible.

I think this will be a game were we may need patience, don't overextend ourselves and make sure we don't conceed an away goal. I think goals will be at a premium and one goal could win it for us. Without Torres we need Gerrard to show like he did against Burnley that he is still a great goalscorer as well as a scorer of great goals.

                             Reina

Johnson           Carra        Greek           Agger

Benny             Masch       Aquilani      Babel

                           Gerrard
                                Kuyt

If Kuyt is not fit I would play Babel up front. 2-0 to us.

:D from the times:

Rail (to) Madrid eye-opener for strangers on a train

“Everyone has been sticking together” - Rafael Benítez, April 21, 2010

We shall never forget them — the brave players and coaching staff of Liverpool FC who, in the face of insuperable odds and under threat from a terrifying volcanic ash cloud, nevertheless dug deep, pulled together and managed to travel quite a long way across Europe in a first-class train carriage, with an overnight stop at a five-star hotel in Paris, eventually arriving in Spain merely 36 hours before they were due to play Atlético Madrid in their Europa League semi-final, first leg.

Savour their glory and relive their extraordinary tales of courage with our special, cut-out-’n’-keep commemorative supplement, in which the players from the already legendary “Trek to Madrid” recall that incredible journey.

Ryan Babel: We boarded the train at Runcorn. It was carnage. The conditions were unbelievable. The seats weren’t leather. And the train appeared to have people on it who were nothing to do with the football club. Members of the public, I think they were. Incredible. I remember looking across at Lucas Leiva and you could see his lip going. Utterly shell shocked.

Steven Gerrard: As soon as the train started to move, there was bedlam. You could see people flashing looks at each other, like: “Is this normal?” David Ngog climbed into the overhead luggage rack and lay there, shouting: “Just make it stop!” Javier Mascherano was screaming and threatening to pull the emergency cord. Sammy Lee had to sit on him in the aisle until he calmed down. Rafa Benítez was on a table, shouting, “Don’t panic, don’t panic,” but no one was really listening to him.

Daniel Agger: Jamie Carragher was brilliant. You look to your big men to step up on these occasions and he duly did. He was going up and down, reassuring people, telling them he had been on a train before and it was nothing to worry about, except, possibly, the toilets. He said he had even been on a public bus once, but I don’t think that was strictly true. He was just saying it to get morale up. That’s Carra all over, though. A born leader.

Lucas Leiva: I think the whole situation began to turn around just south of Crewe, with the arrival of the at-seat trolley service of drinks and light refreshments. It kind of settled everyone. I had a packet of Nobby’s Nuts and a really minging blackberry-and-apple Danish in a plastic bag. Glen Johnson said the bloke with the trolley was a dead ringer for Rodney from Only Fools and Horses. No idea what he was talking about, but the English lads seemed to find it funny.

Dirk Kuyt: The Channel Tunnel was a strange one. It was dark. You’d think they’d have put it somewhere with a view. It seems a waste.

Pepe Reina: The Paris hotel was very nice, although I was disappointed that there was no kiwi in the complimentary fruit basket. And only one pillow. I made a note of that on the guest satisfaction survey in my room.

Glen Johnson: The Paris-Bordeaux leg was a bit boring, to be fair, but the atmosphere among the lads was still brilliant. We had come so far and it was beginning to be clear that we really were going to make it, so you could sense a lot of excitement. Just outside Limoges, I asked Sotirios Kyrgiakos if I could have a look at his FHM and he said: “Get your own.” Fantastic. He didn’t even look up. But that’s the kind of banter you get on these Euro trips, when they go well. Love it.

Gerrard: It brought us together, there’s no doubt. There was a new spirit about us — a real feeling that we’d been through something together and come out the other end stronger. And we only lost 1-0, so the score is a reflection of that. Would I do it again? No.

he fell off his bike last night and grazed his knee. His mam has put some magic cream on it and a dysney plaster, sent a note in explaining why he wouldn't be available on Thursday. apparently it still stings a bit.

There's a few rumours doing the rounds that he will. The other rumour is that Mascherano will play at right back with Johnson at left back.

Dunno how much notice of take of that at this stage though. Could easily change before kickoff imo.

My biggest worry is that we usually do better against teams that think they are better than we are, unfortunately I don't believe A.Madrid do think they are better than us. I think they will come hoping to defend their lead more than trying to snatch a goal , which in turn could make things more difficult for us.
