What more can one ask for, a win and three points in the bag. Atleast it wasn't bad because we didn't lose points but on the other hand we could have been better. Still very happy we won a game on the first night out in europe! YNWA

Watch the goal.

As I mentioned during the game, it drove me nuts that they thought any player going down in the box was claiming a penalty. Half the time the player in question never even looked to the ref, let alone appealed for anything!

Frustrating match however the positives are there. How many of these type of games would we previously have drawn? or indeed lost to last minute goals? We never really looked threatened and I thought Lucas had a pretty solid game. They came to defend and the way they were set up made it tricky but the runs of benayoun caused them problems.

Also, there were a lot of negatives. Gerrards stupid yellow card. The referee pointed out several times "not until I blow this whistle" and what did stevie do? yep, something stupid. Is it just me a bit concerned with his state of mind? the daft pub incident, the daft penalty against villa and the daft card tonight? Hopefully im just reading too much into it.

Our forward play is still static. Aside from benayoun we seemed to be pretty predictable all shots going wide or at the keeper and our set pieces are just awful. Torres to me needs gerrard further forward with him for torres to be more effective. When he is surrounded by defenders he struggles miserably when he is having a frustrating time of it.
Defensively, we got away with it tonight, and for me, I am losing faith rapidly in Skrtel. Too many times he looks clumsy and if we played a better side tonight we would have lost that one.

But like I said there are positives, the positive being we won a frustrating game. Too many times we have been on the wrong end in these games so it makes a nice change.

Babel actually looked really good. I hope to see more of that. I thought perhaps we should of brought Voronin on to try and open them up. Still lacking some creativity in midfield.Reira starting to get back to his best from the look of it. Kuyt and Yossi were brillaint. Lucas was solid just wish he would practise doing more forward balls so he can perform them on the pitch. Gerrard should of got one goal at least. Torres starting to show his colours a bit, still some way to go. Hope Aquilani is creative in midfield or Lucas steps it up even more. Still dissapointing match. But we got the 3 points. And have to make sure to take our chances better.

Can't be ar$ed overanalysing that. Not much to say really. We were really poor, the crowd was consequently really poor (there were a couple of absolute bellends sat behind me) and to round it all off the referee was pi$$ poor aswell.

People, don't be too critical about the performance. We got 3 points while playing this badly has to be a good sign. After all this tournament needs the right time to peak.
