When your Tired and Weary
And your heart it skips a beat,
You'll get your fu.ckin' head kicked in if you walk down heyworth street.
If you come into the Albert
You'll hear our famous noise
GET OUT YOU EVERTON BAS.TARDS
We're the Billy Shankly Boys

We're the boys from the kop
We're loyal and we're true
And when we play the everton we're ready for a do
To the cry of no surrender
You'll hear our famous noise
GET OUT YOU EVERTON BAS.TARDS
We're the Billy Shankly Boys

woof woof ! wrote:Whilst agreeing with the gist of your post JC, (we did ride our luck and Reina was outstanding) I thought we did the old Mohammed Ali "Rope a Dope" trick. We clung on , took all they threw at us, and come midway through the second half there was only one team left that wasn't playing sunday league football and they (we) won .

Maybe so woofster,

but while Ali's 'rope-a-dope' was a tactic, our inability to control the game today wasn't, we can't ignore that.  Everton punched themselves out, you're right about that, but when was the last time we saw so little of the ball and were under as much pressure as today?  Not since the days when we had the likes of Babb and Harkness trying to deal with Duncan Ferguson's aerial threat.  We battled but had no fluidity.  Everton battled just as hard and 9 times out of 10 would have won that game today, but as I said before we were due some luck.

Agree 100%. While I'm happy by just looking at the 3 points we gained for top 4 finish, there's nothing else really for us in this game.

Performance were awful from our side, Everton were the better side (sorry to say this but that's the truth). This kind of performance wont bring us anything for a team that's fighting for the premiership title. Perhaps some may think this is the best result we can get from the injury list we have currently but I think this is the best side to Rafa with the absence of Torres. But I dont think Torres is the difference of a great team and lucky team.

Still, I'm glad we get the 3 points for now and I hope things would get better somehow. Glad the following players performed well:

1) Reina
2) Johnson
3) Benayoun
4) Mascherano

we dont just miss torres we also miss having widemen who have creativity and a bit of guile

riera and benayoun.......rather than auerlio and kuyt (zero creativity)

because our centre mid has nothing when we play lucas/mash

the widemen are then key to create things

I thought we were lucky enough overall..
Things went our way today.. right from the first deflected goal..
On another day the linesman might not have caught the offsides...
On another day Everton should have at least scored once in the first half..

Gerrard was poor today... although even though Ngog did well... it was though for Steven to get into the game with no creativity to bounce off in front or behind him...

I thought Mash stepped up and tried to force things with some decent passes...I thought Lucas was a passenger (without doing anything wrong but not adding anything to the team)...
Yossi and Reira added a bit when they were introduced to the game...

I would have played Gerrard and MAsh in the centre with Yossi behing Ngog...
This would have got Gerrard into the game alot more and Yossi might have been more effective than Gerrard was in his position...

3 points... not very convincing... along way to go
