we're gonna smash these d!ckheads
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Not confident about this game, even with Chelsea playing poorly the last few games.  Last season's league match aside, our record at the Bridge is awful.  Can I see us winning there two seasons on the spin?  It's not that likely.

I think the team will be

                                 Reina

Johnson         Carragher        Skrtel               Aurelio

Kuyt              Lucas            Mascherano     Benayoun

                               Gerrard

                            Torres

I'd like to see Gerrard dropped back for Lucas/Masch and Benayoun behind Torres with Riera on the left, but I can't see Rafa sacrificing a sitting midfielder away to Chelsea.

The only two positions up for grabs are left back and left mid probably.  I expect Aurelio to come in for Insua (Insua's poor positioning for Fiorentina's 1st goal will give Rafa the excuse to drop him, clearly he will want to fit Aurelio in somehow).  I also expect Benayoun to get the nod over Riera, although I still think our strongest XI should include them both.

I'd be happy with a draw in this one, but the way we're playing we'll either win or lose by a couple of goals!

I hope auerlio does start. He seems to always put in decent crosses and take good free kicks at the bridge :D

I think you've got the right squad there John. I think we need experience in the LB position and that means it'll be Auerlio. With regards to LM I'm happy with either of them. It's one of the few positions I can honestly say there's real competition for, which is a massive plus for us when it comes to the season ahead.

I haven't heard much news about player injury recoveries about Mascherano so I don't know if he will play against Chelsea. I wouldn't use Skrtel, he has been playing horribly lately. I would give Kyrgiakos a chance to start full time, he just can't do worse than Skrtel. I expect a really hard match for Liverpool. And I am love and support Liverpool but I seriously doubt that we can will win. I expect a draw and maybe not even :S

I really don't understand what Rafa did last match against Fiorentina. We have seen that Aurelio isn't great as a midfield and he could have perfectly have used Babel or Riera. Seriously I don't know wtf went through his mind there. I don't know if Mascherano is still injured or what. Don't hear many news about Liverpool here were I live. Hopefully he is doing fine. This would be my line-up:

                        Reina
Johnson Carragher Kyrgiakos Aurelio
                    Mascherano
                       Gerrard
          Kuyt                      Riera
                     Benayoun
                       Torres

Final Result: Chelsea 0 - 0 Liverpool  :(

I just can't believe a win, that sucks.

Drogba would rape Kyrgiakos, we have no choice but to hope that Skrtel regains his form.

Yeah your right man, I didn't think of it like that. I guess we have no choice  :no

By the way, I read in LFC official site today that Danny Agger is back to training and already played against Man City Reserves and stuff... Any news when he might be back for the first team? We need him now more than ever! Since Skrtel is playing so damn badly!!!!

Odd, I think that Kuyt is one of the best pass and move players in our team.  He was heavily involved in a lot of our good attacking football last season.

With the current dodgy state of our defence, I'm very sure we'll concede, epsecially when we're facing the likes of Drogba and Anelka. So what we need to do is to score more than them. No point defending, let's go for broke with an attacking line-up. I hope Masch recovers in time and I hope Lucas injures himself during training and sidelined until end of the season! Sorry for being so mean but I juz can't see his quality!

Reina

Johnson Carra Agger (if he recovers) Insua

Kuyt Masch Riera

Gerrard Benoyoun

Torres

Like a lot of games between us and Chelsea in the League the result pretty much depends on who scores first. I can't remember a League game between the two in recent times where the team who scores first goes on to get beat.

The thing is, if we score firsat we've got something to hold onto like last year. Concede first and that means chasing the game and leaving ourselves wide open to counter attacks.

One advantage for us is Chelsea's system imo. It lacks width and I still don't think their diamond in midfield suits Lampard at all.

Rafa Benitez is hopeful of having Javier Mascherano back for Sunday's top of the table clash with Chelsea.
The midfielder missed our 2-0 defeat to Fiorentina on Tuesday due to a minor hamstring problem.

But Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Javier trained today so hopefully he will be fit for Sunday.

"For us he is a key player. He is a very good worker in the middle and he can keep the balance of the team."

Benitez is also set to make a late decision on the fitness of Daniel Agger after he completed 68 minutes for the reserves following a back injury.

"Daniel trained today. I watched the DVD of the reserve game and he did well," said the boss.

"Maybe he will have a chance for Sunday - we will see.

"He is a player who can defend really well but he also has quality in possession. It will be good to have him back."

LFC.TV

I think Masch will be ok for Sunday, and Agger will make the bench. I just think it may be a couple of days too soon for Agger, but hopefully he will be back for all the big games coming after this one.
