tough game .. Drogba will be all over our CB's..

After last night no thanks. Aurelio is nowhere near match fitness let alone against one of the in form sides in the country.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

I dont think the problem with Aurelio is his fitness, it was the fact he was played totally out of position. For me he is by far the best left back at the club and if he has come through last night without problem he should be ok for Sunday
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Gk.Reina
Rb.Johnson
Cb.Carragher
Cb.Skretl
Lb.Aurelio
Cm.Mascherano
Cm.Gerrard
Am.Benayoun
Lw.Riera
Rw.Kuyt
St.Torres

Lucas and Insua shouldnt be anywhere this game, but Rafa will probably start them, and i am very concerned about the centre back pairing, who been awful this season, lets just hope they can get there act together before saturday.

hasnt it already been decided in previous threads that gerrard and masher dont work together as a partnership as seen in numerous games before over the season ????

what but Lucas is a better option i guess ur gonna say  :idea

i dont particuarly like Gerrard and Masch together, but there a damn sight better than anything with Lucas involved.

we have only beaten the average teams that we should be beating comfortably, some of them by the skins of our teeth. We have lost every game against good opposition, do u think this is coincidence?

yes - our defence has been absolutely shocking - also masher was involved in games we have lost this season as well .

P.s. those average teams we should be beating - we failed to beat last season .

yeah they have but so has Lucas and Mascherano to be fair, but Mascherano has proven quality that will return the same cant be said for Lucas.

and as for beating average teams, what does that matter if we start losing to the better ones? a loss is a loss no matter who its versus. This season we wanted to convert those draws vs the lower teams into wins and maintain our form against the other sides.

to be honest... im more concerned about Bosingwa than anyone else in that Chelsea side... Stop Bosingwa and Lampard and i think the front 2 they have would be isolated and if we commit enough bodies at the back then we could even nick it on the break if Cole and Cech arent starting for them....

Id have Kuyt down the left looking to keep Bosingwa occupied, and have Mascherano man mark Lampard all over the pitch... Play Gerrard deeper in the middle with Lucas alongside him, Benny or Babel down the right going at whatever they have if Cole isnt available... Kuyt doesnt really give fullbacks much trouble so it would be a huge waste having him as a right winger against Ferreira or Zhirkov who both havent played at all recently as far as i can tell...

Dont think we'll stand much of a chance if Rafa decides to go with the conventional style we play with Gerrard behind Torres and Lucas-Masch in the middle... would prove to be a total disaster imo... We'll get outrun in the middle which will give their forwards+Malouda all the time and space in the world to cause us problems...

id go with..

                             Reina
Johnson          Carra          Skrtel          Aurelio

                          Mascherano

                 Gerrard             Lucas

Benayoun                                           Kuyt

                             Torres

We'll probably lack a bit of width going forward but i feel this is a game where Rafa should try to stop the opposition from playing rather than try and get our style to dominate theirs... they have the best midfield in the league and arguably the best attacking fullbacks and forwards... play it on the break and try and frustrate them and get them lost for ideas....

Without our secret weapon, our results against the big 4 will suck :(

I think we should play the game tight and try to hit them on the break, but for that to work we need to improve dramatically in defence.

                         Reina

Johnson         Carra     Skrtle        Aurelio

Kuyt     Masch  Gerrard   Lucas       Riera/Benny

                     Torres

i would go for that and have reira and not benny playing - be solid in the first 30 mins and look to attack them on the break .

wouldnt consider Kuyt on the left, yeah he'll help out with the defending, but he's gotta contribute going forward which he wont do out on the left hand side.
