When a new manager comes to a club the first thing he usually does is, looks to make the team defend to the way his methods suite.

Once he has that 'down pat' he builds on from there regarding the football etc. He was slated for the 4-4-2 at Citeh (perhaps the Mascha thing altered that, we don't know). Now he's slagged off playing this style and personel? People expect Merieles to come wading in from the off (just like Aqua did) and show us what he can do? No time for bedding in new players anymore, hell no time for a new manager to get his methods right anymore, ontop of a pre-season that never was.

Konchesky who was signed and slagged off (yet again surprise surprise  :sleepy: ) came straight into the side, where as Meireles didn't- figure that out it's not hard why.

The NEW manager needs and deserves time, best fans in the land definately f.ucking not.
Football is a relatively simple game and Roy knows it ;)

Meanwhile, for the second league game in a row we kept a clean sheet. The game was very loseable, and we didn't lose it. Nae bother, move on.

i was expecting more ambition. results like this were the reasons, or at least one of the reasons, why we wanted the previous manager sacked right?

Roy has always been about anti football and that's not going to change.  It's not a bad thing, but we're not going to win :censored: with these types of tactics unless we get top quality players.

im certain Konchesky's performance today made some eat their words. i thought he did well.

the new manager needs time no doubt but Meireles should've played from the start ahead of Lucas who did nothing to justify why he should wear the club's jersey. things might have been very different if Meireles had played from the start. you could see Torres and Gerrard up their game.

If Hodgson first thing was to sort out the defence he needs to do it quickly - one person saved us and that was Pepe - how many clear headers did they have in the game ?!

Too many. Who do you blame? The CB's? Or the full-backs for not stopping the crosses coming in?

Well wasnt that exciting  :sleep  :shifty thank god we have Reina we could have easily been beaten 3-0 but for his wonderfull saves.
Only good thing about today was Raul looks pretty good no service to Torres, gerrard was sh!te, its like the whole team is going through the motions of just playing and not wanting to win, its like they are waiting for something to happen.
None of them are taking any incitive to do anything special, I thought Jovanovich was a striker? Maxi stunk the joint out aswell.

2 points dropped Im not as dissappionted as I usually am because I knew we wouldnt win anyway. United have players that finish chances off lucky for us Birminghams arnt as clinical.

Shit day all round. Reina is the only player to come out of that game with any credit. And Rauls cameo nothing else worth writting about.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Correct -At this stage i'm pretty much convinced that Skertel has secured his position by being ugly and full of tatoos. Some of his passes and headers are not from the realm of football pathetic. Cara is also not able to contend with the strength and speed of the opponent. Agger and Kirigyakos should be given the chance to lead the defence.

Only a fool would make such a statement after 4 games.

Get over your man love for Aqua. If he'd played today Gardner would have snapped him into a million pieces as he nearly did Lucas.

Very very disapointed with the performance today even if the result wasn't the end of the world. Roy's new Liverpool (so far) is a carbon copy of Rafa's 2009/10 Liverpool from what I can see.

I thought the personnel, set-up and substitutions were as lacking in ambition, verve or attakcing intent as anything Rafa threw out last time around.

- Didn't understand our midfield four at all. We played with two wreckers (not particularly good ones at that) in the middle with Lucas and Poulsen, the pedestrian Maxi on the right and Jovanovic (our best outfield player today) on the left. We sat VERY deep, invited them to press us, let them get the ball wide, fill the box and put crosses in to Jerome. When we did get it back our midfield were so far away from Gerrard/Torres and we lacked the wide players to carry it. It was obvious I thought?

- Baffled by the lack of substitutions. Rafa took stick for it (and rightly so) but Roy simply sat there and waited......and waited......and waited. Mereiles finally got on in the 75th minute to try and solve our dysfunctional midfield and Agger only came on as a forced substitute. The game finished 0-0 and Babel and Pachecho spent the 90 minutes picking splinters out of their a.s.s. We've got 5 points from 4 games with the mancs at trafford next weekend. Despite Birmingham's impressive home record, I fancy this was a game we should have been trying (a little harder) to win.

- Thank fook Joe Cole is available form here on in coz we desperately need him in the side. Would anyone really (deep down) be that upset if Lucas or Poulsen pulled a hammy (please spare me the usual response to this Benny) and had to sit it out for a few weeks? At least then we could avoid a repeat of these two manning the middle together again this season. They are an inept pairing.

- It's still early and perhaps Hodgson is going down the 'let's be tough to beat first and go from there approach' which I can understand and appreciate but it's got to get better. Hodgson remarked that our passing needs to improve, that our movement needs to get better but that will only happen if you get the right players in there. That means having at least one GENUINE wide player who offers a threat dribbling with the ball and playing someone with GENUINE passing ability and a bit of guille in the midfield two. We had neither today.

Today's midfield definitely isn't. I hope that's the last time Lucas and Poulson play at the same time. Actually, I hope that's the last time Lucas plays, full stop.

Agree with most of that but for a couple of observations.
Cole is not the Messiah. If we can't create a chance without him, we are stuffed. We are not Fulham - this "make sure we are not beaten" attitude does not win you the PL.
Would have loved to see either Pacheco or Babel have a run at Carr - he's not getting any younger and he has a short fuse...

Scott I would be happy if both of them were unavailable and we played Merelies and Gerrard in the middle . Would rather have Spearing and Shevley as back up because at least your going to get energy and passion from them

No one is calling for Roys head...to suggest such is a joke!It does not matter if he has been here 6 minutes or 60 years though, today he put out the wrong team.

I'm frustrated because he did not set out a team to win the game.Maxi is pants,Poulsen and Lucas together in CM is too unadventurous and Agger should start before Skrtel in central defence every time he is fit..why??because he is a better defender and he can come out with the ball and get things happening,he has vision as well as an ability to defend!

Should have put a bit of faith in Babel and started him ahead of Maxi, ditched Lucas and put Gerrard in the centre and maybe played Ngog off Torres instead, that would be an attacking team.

Too much emphasis is being put on NOT LOOSING,thats ok we dont want to loose but if you put out a team that is set up not to loose primarily you reduce your chances of winning!
The two holding midfielders thing needs to stop....its ridiculous.

I find Roys caution strange,we finished 7th last season,we are in financial fuc'king turmoil...he has absolutely nothing to loose.Just set out an attacking team and go for it against teams like Brum.Have'nt been beaten in 17,what does that matter??
What would Shanks have said??

He'd have said you lads are gonna make sure that record ends today...and went hell for leather for the win!
When Rafa went it was his time to go,even his most loyal fans would if not should admit his methods were not working and the players were not happy implementing them.......Im not getting on Roys case just yet but I expected a bit more ambition in games.
We just are not creating enough chances, the team is too disciplined at present..keeping shape too much instead of letting guys make runs we are static and easy to mark.

He does'nt have to do a lot to make us better just a bit more balls....I think to be honest the guy is a bit overwhelmed at what he has taken on but I expect him to come good.Regardless of what he has walked in to with the owners and stuff we will judge by what happens on the pitch.....and sorry today was miles off good enough.

*****and no manager of LFC should ever say that he is not disappointed with a draw with Birmingham ever ever ever again*****
