You have 30 million... - ... how do you make us champions?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

The press seem deadset on us signing this Aquillani lad from Roma once Xabi goes. I've got a lot of faith in Rafa when it comes to centre-mids but am very concerned about this lad's injury record. Still, he looks like he's got an eye for goal with both feet, gets forward a fair bit and has a good strike on him.

By all accounts, he's another Darren Anderton Sick-note type though, no ?

We are also being linked with Defour. Although not as high profile as Aquilani he could be a better option and cost around the same?

Does it say much about our standing when Chelski are sniffing around Pirlo (world class) when we are linked to this other guy (sicknote).

I know if you include wages and transfer fees the below goes over 30Mil but I would also be looking to let a few more leave permanently (Itandje, Dossena, Babel and Voronin) and let quite a few go out on loan which would save us wages and maybe even make us a little money.

Richard Dunne - (£3MIL, 35K a week) – Very experienced at premiership and international level, strong as an ox, aerially dominant, surprisingly quick and at 29 just the right side of 30. City have already bought in Toure and seem determined to bring in at least one more centre back so they may be willing to let Dunne go. He has already been linked with a number of clubs and I’m sure he would be willing to speak to us. In the 2007/2008 season he was one of the best centre backs in the league although last season his form wasn’t great. But if there is one position I trust Rafa with when it comes to coaching it is centre back. I’m confident that under the astute guidance of Rafa, Dunne could slot in nicely when needed. Sylvain Distin is another good option and we could probably get him for a similar fee and wages.

Wesley Sneijder - (£18MIL, 80K a week) – Excellent central midfielder who came through the famous Ajax academy system and would be a good replacement for Alonso. He is only 25 but is vastly experienced, can also play on the wing and is more than comfortable with both feet. He is an excellent passer and is a free kick specialist, in fact he is first choice for Holland ahead of Van Persie and others. Real Madrid need to get rid of some players, especially those who are on higher wages, so it is definitely worth making an enquiry.

Patrick Vieira - (£1Mil, 70K a week) – Physically he might not be what he used to be but he knows the Premiership inside out. We play about 60 games a season and I think he could give us 30 – 40 starts and play at a high level. I’m not even going to talk about his ability because he is unquestionably world class. We could offer him a one year contract with the option of a 1 year extension if things work out.

Adam Johnson - (£8Mil, 25K a week) – He has one year left on his contract so we should be able to snap him up for under 10Mil. He is one of the most promising young English players out there and would provide strong competition for Riera. We might even be able to reduce the transfer fee by offering Middlesbrough Hammill permanently and/or a couple of youngsters on loan.

Amr Zaki - (£1.5Mil for one year loan, 30K a week) – Would be a great back up to Torres. He is a strong centre forward who has great stamina and a decent goal scoring record. We saw what he is capable of last year before he got injured. He had a few disciplinary problems at Wigan, mainly returning late from international duty. Right now he is being linked with the likes Portsmouth so I’m sure if Rafa sat him down and explained he was playing for a permanent deal he would toe the line.

                                Reina
                               Cavalieri

G.Johnson    Carragher    Agger    Aurelio
     Degen         Skrtel         Dunne     Insua

                      Sneijder   Mascherano
                        Lucas         Vieira

               Kuyt        Gerrard        Riera
             El Zhar        Benayoun      A.Johnson

                               Torres
                                 Zaki

With the above squad I would be reasonably confident of mounting a serious title challenge but still be worried about our backup keeper, backup right back and backup right midfielder. But even then, with a little wheeling and dealing it wouldn’t be hard to bring in better players in those positions without spending much.

Zaki was a whinging t.wat when he was playing at wigan cause they didnt start him every game and caused all sorts of problems - wouldnt want him anywhere near the club - scored most of his goals from the pen spot as well .

Buy :

David Silva 25 Million . ( 70k p/w)

Positions covered , anywhere across the midfield preferred position left side of midfield . Young , versatile , excellent  dribbler and has a good shot and crosses the ball well  . The little Spaniard would not replace Alonso but would be a more attacking option , also if he signs , Gerrard will be thrown back to midfield and Silva will play as the 2nd striker.

Slyvin Distin - 3 million (25k p/w)

Positions covered backup center back , he can play anyways across the defense as well and if i'm not wrong he started off as a left back. He's excellent in the air , got a good pace about him , reads the game well and very expereinced at this level with still 2 to 3 years left in him. Would be a brilliant replacement for hypia.

Sanli Tuncay , 5 million (30k p/w)
Positions covered , right midfield and backup center forward. The Turk broke on the scene when he scored a hat trick against Manchester united but was overshadowed by Rooney's brilliant performance as well during that match. Always been a keen admirer of him and he's the creative sort of player that we need and can play in the midfield on the right as well as backup striker if we need. Saw a couple of weeks ago that boro want 5 million for him and for that price would surely be worth a punt.

Total : 33 Million

Out :

Andrea Dossena - 4.5 Million
Postions covered , left back/left midfield

Arbeloa - 3.5 Million
Positions covered , anywhere across the defence

Xabi Alonso - 30 million
Positions covered , center midfield

Leto - 2 million
Positions covered - left mid

Maybe:

Voronin - 4 to 5 million???
Positions covered - striker

So that would give us a total of 40 million and if the voronin deal goes through 45 million . So which leaves us with 12 million , i'd go for joe cole with that amount spurs bid 10 million for him yesterday and he surely won't have many chances with zhirkov , essein , malouda all there fighting for a spot among lampard , chelsea rarely play with wingers. The Englishmen would be a brilliant acquisition at that price at wages could be around 80k per week?

Was thinking today in work, what money does rafa have.

say he sold keane for 12 million im sure it was a little bit more theres

+12

Then there is arby gone 3 million

+15 million

Dossena gonna go theres another 4 million

Thats +19 million

Xabi is off say we get 28 million at a min

thats 47 million

We bought glen johnson but most of that money in that deal was money owed to us from peter leaving.

And we have given new contracts to some players...

How much does he have left and that is before we jump into the normal 20 million we have each summer to add to the squad

keane should read - 8 not +12, you must work for the yanks with your creative accounting. You then use different formula for Johnson/Crouch, dont be wasting space :no

Yeap , he's a fantastic passer and set peicer taker . Up until last season was brilliant , perhaps age has caught up with him or just a one off bad season , he's 30 now? Would love him here for that price 10 million or so as he has a year left on his contract? Oh and its a shitty time to be a milan fan now , no kaka , no prilo maybe , they need to sign someone fast or they'd be fecked for the next 3 to 4 years . If prilo does leave milan i think there will be a huge revolt by the fans , he's like a living legend there

Silva, Tuncay and Distin for me.

I like Tuncay a lot as a player. He just doesn't score enough goals. Actually I'm going to watch Boro-Sheff Utd on Friday so it'll be interesting to see if Tuncay plays.

Good post mate.

We do have a back up keeper, so one less problem.
