we dont need him? WRONG

we need to replace zenden and gonzo in the squad

hes a good squad player......not a massive huge signing.

we needed to replace those 2 and he is a good start

i also want 2 quality wingers......quasimodo and simao would be nice

Zenden and Gonzalez were LW where Benayoun is a RW  :;):

I agree with Lakes  :(

I've always rated him - very pleased we've got him to be honest.

BBC now running with it as their top sports story...

Reds agree Benayoun transfer fee

Benayoun has been at West Ham for two seasons
Liverpool have agreed a fee with West Ham for Yossi Benayoun, according to the Israeli international's agent.

BBC Sport understands a £4m transfer will be finalised for the 25-year-old West Ham midfielder on Wednesday.

Agent Ronen Katzav said: "Everybody would be happy to play for Liverpool. West Ham will always be in his heart but he is looking to move up a level."

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez said: "It's clear he'd like to come and he's a player I like."

Benayoun, Israel's national captain, moved to Upton Park from Racing Santander in a £2.5m deal in 2005.

He has played 72 games for the Hammers and scored eight goals.

The clubs have already done business this summer with striker Craig Bellamy moving to the capital from Merseyside in a £7.5m deal.

It's only 4M

If he is :censored:, we can always sell him to Sven.

I thought he could play on either wing ? Which to me makes him a very useful squad member

yeah he can play LW or RW

hes not exactly a winger though, more like the arsene wenger style wide man

much better than zenden and gonzo

Yossi Benayoun is a far better player than most believe. More importantly, he is a genuine ball at feet dribbler, something we just don’t have and have needed for far too long.

He may not be the player to catapult us to the title but he represents excellent value for money, £4Mil for a proven Premiership player who is versatile and in the prime of his career.

Yep good shout. Maybe I was watching different matches but he looked like West Hams most intelligent player most of the time.

if you asked me which is the better deal? malouda for 13 million or benayoun for 4 million? its benny every time

Malouda never stuck out to me as being quality, ribery was the one with the ability.

Benayoun at that price is a great deal, overlooked and underated because of where he is from

its not cool to be from israel

A better way to replace gonzo and Zenden and add squad depth is to sign a LM that is better than Kewell and have Kewell be the cover.  If this signing takes away from getting top quality then it is certianly not worth it. if we have to settle for a 15 Mil player when we could ahve had a 20, come on that shouldn't even be a question. I hope that what happened was either we have so much cash it doesn't matter, Rafa figured he couldn't get a reasonable price for Simao, Quaresma, or Mancini or anybody else.  I think now Hammill HAS to be loaned out for the season, if I were him this is a real discouragement, just when there are slots in the first team open for him to compete for, coming off of a good showing in Scotland and we go and sign someone to be used as a Utility winger on the Subs bench.  not denying that he is better than Gonzo and Zenden, and I guess 4 million looks like a really good deal for him, but since he probably wont be starting I would have liked us to try and exhaust all our options for someone of a high enough quality to take a starters spot, and then with the left over money, by a squad player at a good value. but on the short term, it looks like we found a bargain.

Benayoun is a good player he is a great replacement for Zenden and a more consistant version of Garcia, Althought he wont be the first name on the team sheet he provides versitile cover for the Wings and central Midfield.

For £4 million we picked up a proven premiership quality player that also has the skill to go further in a better team ( no dis to west ham  :p )
