The circumstances are not in our favour.
He isn't english, 30 years, not much left on contract
and the player have expressed a desire to leave. Not to mention we(or the vermin) might need the money.

Milner is totally different on so many levels.
He is English, is capped, pretty young, on a good contract, haven't expressed his desire to leave. Villa isn't really in need of money either.

Agreed on most but make it £8m and he can go. A bit part player at LFC who would become a bit part players at Chelsea if he goes.

Chelsea are weighing up a double move for Liverpool's Javier Mascherano and Yossi Benayoun.

The Double winners realise Liverpool are vulnerable to offers and have earmarked the duo to reinforce their ageing squad with Michael Ballack and Joe Cole expected to leave.

Liverpool do not want to sell to Chelsea but if the financial offer is bold enough they may have little choice with Rafa Benitez's budget almost non-existent.

Mascherano has shelved talks on a new contract while Benayoun is hoping to discuss a move to Stamford Bridge for around £6m this week.

Benayoun, 30, said: 'Ancelotti wants me for next season and now everything depends on Liverpool. Chelsea will have to pay some £6m but I believe that in the end I'll be moving there.'

I'd bite their elbows off for a Cole>Yossi swop.

I don't think it would ever happen though, not unless Ancelotti had rocks in his head.

Cole is going to get such a ridiculous wage packet we shouldn't even bother. Spurs can offer at least the same if not better wage, Cl football and a london stay. City can offer the same as us besides twice the wage.
Cole is 28-29 and wants to win now. We can offer the least appealing proposition.

If Benayoun wants to leave and we can get 7-8 million I guess we'd be hard pressed not to take it.

I like Joe Cole, but just how many matches a season will he manage? He seems to be injured a fair bit and the injuries are serious injuries that keep him out of action for months at a time. Like Aurelio, I'd offer Joe Cole as a pay-as-you-play contract.

If Benayoun wants to leave let him leave, he's a good player, but he is easily replaceable. I reckon we should take a punt at Clint Dempsey in the summer. Sell Yossi and try and bring in Dempsey.

You never know
He might be up for the challenge of playing alongside Kuyt, Lucas and N'gog...

Not a bad shout although he is more of an attacking midfieldfer/2nd striker as opposed to a wide man (which is what we need).

He can play on either wing on top of the positions you mentioned. He's a versatile player and gives us other options. He's also in our price range, I'd have a punt if I was Rafa Benitez.

So do I, but realistically we won't be able to afford him.
