Not long ago United had the wealth and in fairness to the horrible kunts a lot of it was developed. They never simply went out and bought a team in the same soulless way as Man City and Chelsea by spending obscene amounts of money over a very short time scale. Now United,Chelsea,Man City,Barca,Real Madrid,Bayern Munich,PSG and even the likes of Anji all have the ability to chase after the very best players. The list is getting longer every season. The best players now have a lot more choice where to play and where to live. Life will become increasingly more difficult for the clubs with the new money who are paying ridiculous amounts of money in transfer fees and salaries.Look at Man City and Chelsea this season for example. Just what are they going to win? Swansea could end up having a better season in terms of trophies than these two utterly soulless clubs.
Do the players really care? Tevez goes on a golf sabbatical and throws his dummy out when things aren't going quite his way. What do you think Bill Shankly would have done with Tevez? Balotelli is another bad example of the modern day footballer and it saddens me to say it but Fernando Torres attitude also stinks.Rooney and his agents almost hold United to ransom to get what they want and they succeeded.Ferguson has never recovered from that and his bitterness went some way to them losing against Real Madrid on Tuesday. If these are the sort of players and clubs that you want then lets go and find ourselves a rich billionaire but I still want to know what will happen when everybody has a rich billionaire?
Welcome to modern football.
Either jump on the bandwagon or get left behind.

At least they have won titles even if they have bought the best players to do it.
We used to buy the best players throughout the 70's and 80's to get the best team to win the title.
It's just done on a grander scale now.
Ill have Chelsea's 3 Prem titles in the last decade over our None
But would you also have their plastic fans and soulless team?
We have plenty enough plastic fans anyway
And why is their teams soulless ?

Oh come on Benny, you can't ask me why is Chelsea soulless. They are a classless team with an idiot owner who changes managers like we change socks and they have mercenary players who have no respect for the club or the manager.

But it's a situation that won't ever happen. Billionaires won't buy the smaller clubs because they aren't the right base for big billionaires - they want big exposure - they will get that from the top clubs not from the Norwich or Stoke or West Brom etc

City had the base - Chelsea had London
Add in Arsenal , Us , Spurs maybe even the bitters and Villa.
It doesn't need imagination - it needs money. Has done for over a decade now.
Yes I am desperate to win titles again because I liked the club being the most successful in the country.
I'm not happy being a mediocre mid table club , I wasn't happy just being a CL club. I want more , the players will want more. All the fans should want more for the club. To get more we will need to buy better and to buy better will need to spend more money. That's the way of the prem now.

No one has said getting a billionaire guarantees anything but getting that sort of backing gives the club the best chance to compete for the title.
It's all about which teams spend the most money to get the best players. Been like that for a long time now and it's not going to change for a long time until wage caps are enforced.

I know it's unimaginative.
It's football and football is run by money. Once that concept is grasped then possibly you might understand what is needed in the current climate for clubs to succeed. You don't win titles by being imaginative , you don't win titles by being safe. You win titles by taking financial risks and be able to buy the best players.
Until then we will continue to struggle and some people have accepted that and seem content with that because they expect us to rise again because we are Liverpool ! It's fairytale stuff totally detached from reality. One day they will wake up to the reality of the situation of modern football
Benny The Noon » Thu Mar 07, 2013 9:36 pm wrote:You do realise that fans are already paying over a £100 a ticket at Arsenal !
It's already reality ! It's here already - it's not something that is going to happen - its happening now.
Do you not understand that ? The game is now based on money.
My "tunnel vision" of the game is the current reality of the game.
Unless you think it's not based on money ?
