Worried about our defence

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

What the bleedin hells going on?
Manure have signed Evra and this Vidic fella 2 of our targets.
We have managed to sign Kromkamp in a swap for Josemi good cover for Finnan IMO.

But since last January we have been looking for cover for central defence, in comes Smellygrino who was sh.ite, maybe done some good on the training field getting our players to understand this zonal marking system, but noway should he have played against Tottenham, the bitters or the mancs he was dreadful.

But I like the way Rafa ships his flops straight out, Josemi, Nunez, Smellygrino not like Houllier loaning them out still to be on our books for bloody years, which reminds me Any takers for salif Diao ???

Anyway back to topic, I know some people are going to say oh the windows only been open 10 days bla bla, have patients.

But we have a major problem on our hands if Carra or Hyypia got injured we are fecked big time.
The CL games start soon also, we have the F.A.Cup the premiership, and Sammis age was showing against Luton, cause of the busy Chrimbo period.

We failed to sign and defenders in the summer transfer window, any of these transfer targets should have been sorted out and signed on the 1st of January, to get them training with the squad and used to this zonal marking system.

Now it looks like the agger do deal has fell through, Brondy want 7 million now, plus he has been called up to go to Chille for 2 weeks for the Danish under 21 squad and wont return till the 29th of January, bloody great isnt it?

Ill probably get slammed for this but why is it so hard for a club that has just won the CL most  successful club in english history cannot bloody sign 2 centre halves?

You pay for what you get pay up Rick and David, because this area of the pitch is the one that needs filling asap.

Jeezuz , what is it with some of these clubs ? Making a verbal agreement then upping the price at the last minute     Surely they know Rafa's response to those tactics is to just walk away .

When it comes to transfer dealing we really do seem to have a rep as being a soft touch.
While im certainly concerned over the Central defence and have been since off season.
I certainly consider it far more of a priority then a RM
I rather wait and get quality then end up with a panic buy who does more harm then good
Just hope the Gods keep smiling on Sami and Jamie until then

We all feel your fustration as fans we cant do anything but have a whinge on here. Look how far Rafas taken us so far. We were a lot worse of last year than this. This year we have overtaken in the table by a considerable gap one of the most consistent performers domestically (Arsenal) and are closing in on Man Utd.

So what is evident here? Rafa is finally learning how to perform consisntely in the Premiership, something that we all hoped hed do. In doing so come the fact that Rafa uses certain player with certain attrtibutes to contribute to the team. Such as peter Crouch for example. I have faith in Rafa as im sure you do CGGY so lets just not get our paties in a twist yet shall we. As you rigthtly mentioned the windows only 10days old and you never know what Rafas going to pull out of the bag. Yeah weve had one or 2 flops last year but as you also rightly said Rafa ships them out quick. So the only real fact here is that whatever Rafa does, he always gets the job done. Im sure by the weekend well have signed another player.

Bav London, I understand what your sayin mate, but come on, weve had over a year to know we seriously need cover for the defence, say hyypia or Carra got injured on saturday against Spurs, what then hey? Traore would come in for either one  .

I dont blame Rafa he knows who he wants, Parry and Moores have to loosen the purse strings you have to pay for quality where it counts.

We are in a very good position in the prem now, I fear that god forbid anything happens to Carra and Hyypia, that the gates of Fortress Anfield maybe unlocked.

Laza is correct we are very dosile with transfers, even though I would'nt want anyone else running the club.

Lets just give it a bit more time. The Agger situation should be revealed after a few comment mhe made to the press yesterday but who knows? You know Rafas not the type to chat in the public about transfer dealings but remember this, if anyone realises that we need cover for Sami and Jamie its Rafa, after all he is the manager.

Rafa knows what he wants and what the team needs, but he cannot control the whole economic situation in the transfers. He can give his opinion about one or the other player, but in the end it is up to the chairman and the club to decide to buy or not.

I've said this before, but I do think that sometimes you just need to spend the moola!  If a top quality centerback is going to cost us 10 million, we need to just pay it.  The other big clubs do.  Man U is a great example.  They needed a top quality CB and spend a fortune on Rio, but thats it.. they are sorted for 5 years at least.

Speculate to accumulate!!
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

What concerned me more than anything was the ease there forwards would move in behind are L/B and R/B, dragging Carra and Hyypia out of position, its easy to look at the center halfs when you concede 3 but Finnan and Risse had by far there worst game of the season and Lutons plan worked well, Risse had an absolute mere but we have cover for him, Sami looked knacked and could do with someone to take a bit of responsiblity.

We cant expect him and Carra to keep up there form so far this season on there own.

We knew the clean sheets would last forever but we need to just get the stability back again starting with this weekend.

But we do need to re-enforce the squad big time otherwise with the length of the season we will have, we could easily suffer from burn out come April.

I agree Gary...  except I think burn out is more likely to happen in the next few weeks.  Our season started a lot earlier that most, and people where saying back then that problems may well hit around Xmas.  This point could be proven if we are not careful.

I wouldnt be so sure at pointing the finger at Rick or the chairman, Rafa will have the final say and he obviously comes across as a very shrewd manger especially when it comes to transfer dealings. He wont pay over the odds for a player like Maureen or Houllier would .

But I do share the same view that its time to get a move on if we are going to bring a couple of new faces. Some people we say dont worry its only January the 9th , but thats what we were all saying during the summer.

Fact is, you cant get away with your center halfs not being a 100% fit and focused not in the prem, Finnan and Risse we have cover for and you can get a way with playing a midfielder or forward whos not quite fully fit, but we have cover for everywhere on the pitch, except center half, id like to have something wrapped up by the end of the week.

Im not panicing i just think the squad could do with the boost of a couple of new faces.

Spot on there Gmac , Luton had done there homework , whenever Finnan (for example) pushed forward as soon as they recoverd the ball Luton pumped it in to the acres of space behind him .Compared to their other performances this season our back four in that game was a bl'oody shambles .All credit to Luton.
