I'm not going to argue that, since it's my hope and belief someday Liverpool will be back on top.

But I'm talking about right here and now.
And right now Chelski and Manure are way ahead.
World class/top class cost 25m+ at least and we can't afford that types of players.
So all the talk about why they choose not to come here is garbage since we can't afford them.

It's not we can't afford them, we've spent a lot of money on useless players, instead of one huge amount on a player that we need. Also we've just be given 40m by Tom and George, surely we can afford a player or two now. For crying out loud, Michael Owen would only cost us 9 mill, which is a bargain, even if he's not the player he was, he'd still score the goals given the chance. So if we want to bring in world stars the money is there but in my opinion i think Rafa doesn't like world stars, he'd rather turn average players into world stars, like he has with Xabi, Pepe and Danny Agger

I don't think we'll get a huge amount spent on a player this summer because we need to fill in the gaps to ensure we challenge for the league this year. It's clear we're dying for a proven striker, posiblly bringing Owen back, as he has proven himself time and time again he can score in the Prem. We need a decent left back, my ideal choice is Matty Taylor, another player who has proven he can cope with life in the Prem and I'd like to see us bring Aaron Lennon to Anfield, just to excite us because at times we play dull football, but if Pennant can keep up the form he showed at the back end of last year I'd happily refuse Lennon. But I think we have to bring in British based players who know the Premiership because we have to mount a challenge to Chelsea and United and players from abroad take a year to settle in so it's another year wasted.

One final point why do we need to go out a buy world stars for 20-30 million pound when Liverpool's greatest players are homegrown Brits, surely there are players just as good as the Torres/Villa/Eto'o in England.

That's the problem, there isn't the talent of Torres/Villa/Eto'o who are English, of what there is they are already at the big clubs or would cost an extortionate price anyway, or they don't want to leave their clubs. We turn to foreign players because we have no option, talent from abroad tends to be cheaper and has more technical ability than English players.

I understand what you're saying that there's no talent in England or Britain for that matter but England's U-21 side got to the european championship semis so there is some talent out there. Reading had a great year last year so why don't we take a punt on Lita/Doyle. Also I'm not asking for us to just buy British players, I want players who know the British game and don't need a year to settle in, for example Martins, been here a year, knows how the Prem works and knows how to score, why not grab him. If all else fails why not bring Anelka back? There's always the rumours of Nugent (i personally don't want him but why not give him a go?) Benni McCarthy another player who has shown he can score in the Prem and we could easily afford him. So although there doesn't appear to be a great deal of British talent coming through, there is talent from proven Premiership players, I'd rather us go for one of them than a foringer who takes a year to settle in and then wants a move back to Spain or wherever.

I'm well aware of the U21's having watched them throughout the tournament but the fact remains there is not enough top English talent that we can feasibly consider bringing in. Lita and Doyle IMO are not up to it, we need real quality, we can't afford at this stage to be taking punts on youngsters like him to lead the front line - they just aren't good enough at the moment. In one of your earlier posts you made the point that foreign players take a year to bed in, but if you gave me the option of Torres or Lita I'd take Torres hands down purely because he has more quality. I consider taking a punt on a young English talent like Lita or a young Irish talent like Doyle much more of a risk than taking a punt on a player like Torres. The talent abroad tends to have more technical ability - something we desperately need - and tends to be cheaper. I can't think of players other than SWP or Mica Richards who would be worthwhile taking a gamble on - Stu will say Ashton but that's Stu - he thinks the sun shines out of his backside.

I really don't see Benni Mccarthy, Lita, Doyle and even Martins as either the type of player we need or the quality of player we need. Anelka is a player with quality, but IMO, I would steer well clear of him and I should think Rafa will aswell - he never settles and his attitude on the pitch appears lethargic at times.

Foreign talent doesn't come with an automatic handicap stating they will take a year to settle, plenty of players hit it off straight away, likewise, "proven" premiership players don't come with a guarantee that they will settle in straight away - I'd say it matters largley on their quality and their ability to settle in the squad. Since we have plenty of Spanish players, and players of other nationalities I consider it more likely that some of our potential foreign transfer targets will settle in more easily than what a player like Lita would.

i agree torres or lita, everyone would take torres but he'll cost us an arm and a leg, i still think a proven player in the prem is where our goalscoring problems lie, but should we sign torres i'll be the first to sing his name.

lets not get 2 carried away pal, Morientes all the talent in the world in Spain and France came to Liverpool and well lets just say it didn't work out.
Ciise top goalscorer in France 2 years running, arrives on Merseyside and isn't as prolific as we'd hoped
Emile Heskey, looked the buissness at Leicester and despite a good debut season with us, he went downhill from then on
Diouf, african player of the year, star of the 2002 world cup, Liverpool sign him and he's a total disaster
Craig Bellamy was BRFC top scorer we sign him and he couldn't score in a brothel
Either all of these players can't handle playing for such a huge club as Liverpool or Liverpool do something to them which make them become bad players.

So maybe quality isn't the answer either--my solution bring in Craig Linfield. i mean Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler both great natural goalscorers coming through our youth system, i think now we give Linfield the chance.

There are just as many foreign players who have succeeded as who have failed, it depends on their quality and their suitability. Cisse never had the touch or control and had a poor attitude - unsuitable, Morientes couldn't cope with the pace and physicality of the English game - unsuitable, Bellamy - played out of position to where he played at Blackburn and rotated a lot, Diouf - a pile of W*nk full stop - unsuitable, Heskey - decent but not good enough.

We can't afford the risk of putting Lindfield in straight away, maybe gradually e.g. in the cups and one or two lesser EPL games at home, but not as our main striker - we need top quality. Lindfield is no Fowler or Owen but I agree, he does look to be a great prospect - he just needs to be assimilated into the first team gradually.

If we go abroad (again) it has to be a prolific striker who can settle quickly, Torres will cost us around 27m, is that too much of a risk? Who knows, but if he arrives I'll be happy if he does what he is meant to and thats bang in the goals.

I'd happily see Craig Linfield up front, partnering Peter Crouch. You never know how good a player is, until you give him a chance. Put Linfield in and give him a proper run in the 1st team. Fowler and Owen both came through our youth side and let's face it they are our best strikers since the 90s. Our best 2 players now Carra and Stevie G (both coming through our youth side) Our youth side won the youth cup 2 years running, so it's proven we have quality in the youth side, so lets give them a go rather than sending them on loan to mickey mouse lower league or scottish sides.

I am no world class player for sure, but there is one thing I know : forget about Chelsea, Arsenal or Man U, Liverpool FC has always been, is and will always be THE English club.
