Hang your head in shame for even suggesting such a player should come to our great club, lad.  :no

im merely suggesting someone who IMO is capable.

tevez is a great player and will probably move to a top club... wont be liverpool though !
with torres-kuyt-crouch and voronin we should have a pretty good foward line for next sason .
our wingers are still re problem though... kewell and pennant are good players but i think we still need to sign a topclass left winger to start ahead of kewell with kewell given a more garcia like role in the squad... perhaps coming in as an AM in some games whle providing backup for the left wing... benayoun would make good backup for the right sie and i think with the funds we would generate from the selling of
gonzales - bellamy - cisse - garcia - f.s.pongolle
we should be able to afford a top left winger...mancini would be brilliant imo...

Yeah I think Mancini would be the player out wide who can make things happen for us, from the small amount I have seen of him. We do need a wide player.

The thing is I just know Tevez will be such an unbelivable player, he would become a Legend at Liverpool. Before all the Torres talk really got rolling, I was checking each day if we had signed Tevez. But If there is still the slightest possibility to get him. Even now we have got Torres. We would be mad not too, he is just too bloody good.

It would mean goodbye to one of our forwards if it did happen Im sure. And it might even mean we would not have funds for a top quality winger until next season. But I would be far happier if that did happen.

i see where ur coming from ... BUT
tevez is said to be moving for no less that 30mill....
now im not saying his price tag isnt justified... if bent is 17mill and torres is 27 then tevez should atleast be 30 i guess...
but for 30 mill... we could sign dani alves(14mill) and mancini(15-20mill).... personally...id go for the 2 wingers instead...
our forward line can do the job with torres now in... but our wingers are still some way short of title-winning quality imo !
pennant can do a job and kewell is a very good player when fit and hungry but stilll think that with 2 topclass wingers we could potentially become of the best sides in world football !even if we wouldnt have siged torres... 2 world class wingers and the players we have in the middle... we'd look very dangerous goin forward and any striker would look good.
torres is a huge bonus imo but we should now be looking to strengthen the flanks with a left winger top priority i guess.
david silva (strongly linked to him) siged a new contract so that leaves us with few realistic targets... mancini and vicente are the only 2 i could come up with..

Totally agree with you Ace. A winger is what we need and I dont have faith in Kewel being fit all season. But something just keeps me coming back to Tevez.

Feck it play Tevez on the wing :P (Joke btw)

prefer to sign tevez as players like him don't come onto the market very often.

with torres and teves leading the line we don't have to worry about signing strikers for the next 5+ years.

then next season we can sign 2 new wingers - between kewell, riise, pennant, gerrard, aurellio, lucas, bellamy (played there for wales) i'm sure we can manage for a season especially with that firepower up front.

I think that our Forwards should be good enough now, i personally think Kuyt will kick on from last season especialy with someone like Torres next to him.

Therefore wingers seem to be an area which needs most concern, i really liked the look of Royston Drenthe in the U21 championships he had a very good engine and his delivery was also very impressive.
I'm sure the left side is being looked into by Rafa as a matter or importance it does look like Benayoun may arrive and he can play on the left side. But by the looks of things that would not go down very well with a lot of people on here!!

If the choice is between Tevez and 2 quality wingers, then I'd rather we take Tevez anytime.

If some other 2nd striker..... then definitely wingers/wingbacks.... we need better than Pennant and an injury prone Kewell.....
Mancini, Navas, Silva, Gamst Pederson, Alves are names that come to mind......

We need a more potent goal threat from the flanks as teams tend to sit back when we play them and hope to get us on the break. One up against us often leads to 3 points from them as we seem to run out of attacking ideas last season......

I remember sometime, some other thread that some people on the forum were discussing the possibilty of van der Vaart playing in Red.

He's fits the second striker bill perfectly. And is one of the finer calibre players in his position.

What do you think?

He has the pass, the finishing, is two footed, and a mainstay of the Dutch National Football team.

What he gets out of playing for a mid table Hamburg, I dont know. But he seems to be the answer to our second striker question. And another finer, more realistic target, I cant think of no other.

s@int wrote:Now it seems we have our new striker almost sorted, who should we go for next? We could sign a winger Malouda, Mancini or Simao, or we could go for a creative second striker (unless Rafa sees Torres playing that role? )

I would prefer the creative second striker myself, even though we appear to have an abundance of strikers at the moment, and seem light on the wings. Tevez is the one out there at the moment that we could perhaps get, he has reasonable pace, great movement and can finish. I haven't seen much vision from him but thats not to say he doesn't have it. Players of this quality only rarely become available, while good wingers seem to become available as soon as you mention money.(big money   :D  )

I would prefer signing Tevez this season even if it meant no new wingers, (we can get them next year) and I am not thrilled anyway by the wingers we are rumoured to be interested in, hopefully by next season we may have a better choice at more reasonable prices to choose from.

              Reina

Finnan   Carra   Agger     Aurelio

Pennant Gerrard Mascherano Kewell

                Tavez
                     Torres

Obviously Gerrard could again cover for Pennant, with Riise/Leto covering for Kewell.

While that lineup may be a little too aggressive for Rafa, it would get plenty of goals and by shuffling Gerrard out to the right (I know), and bringing Alonso in to the centre we have solidity(keep Rafa happy), but also retain our goal threat.

It also eases the problem of introducing too many players into the team at once, as we would only have 2 new players, with Leto and Lucas coming in for LC games etc.

Reina

    Finnan    Agger              J.c             Riise

    Gerrard       Alonso         Mascherano Kewell

            Torres            kuyt/crouch

Hopefull kewell can show us wat hes really like and i want to sign a left winger!,think we needto strenghten the left back area too,i think wed be ok with pennant and gerrard right mideifeld! with lucas/sissoko/mascherano/alonso ighting for the centre midfielder positions!
