Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

It seems that he is fighting with Carragher `bout the left back ? But isn`t JA better than JC - with his long good runs ? ???

caragher is much better defensively, riise is much better coming forward. I think caragher is a better left back because when your in that position i think being able to defend is more important than your attacking play.

Rise hasn't had a decent game for Liverpool for 12 months. The general feeling that he is better going forward than Carra is no longer valid. His defending is poor, his crossing not up to the required standard and the great start he made when arriving at Liverpool is sadly a distant memory. I hope he finds his form and makes a contribution to LFC this season. :)

And what do you and your friends do to make that happen ? ???
But I have to say though - he has a lot of selfasteem - he sees himself as captain of Norway in a few years !
Don`t you need that kind of player ?

Listen Thor, I'm NOT critiscising JAR for the sake of it, I like the lad and wish him well. I don't know who or what has changed his game but you can't deny what you see with your eyes week in week out . Perhaps his confidence is low and he might be subscepible to criticism but his game is poor at the moment. His goals against Arsenal when he ran half the length of the pitch , Everton and his glorious Free Kick against Manchester United at Anfield live long in the memory but they were a LONG time ago  now ........ Walk on

He's not good enough. Simple as that.

Carragher keeps the ball far better and is by miles the better of the two defensively. And considering left back is a defensive position.... u know the rest. :)

In a fluent, confident, attacking team with bags of movement i would have Riise in my team. But in this Liverpool team right here right now i'd take Carra every time. Local, committed and rock solid. Just wot we need at the moment!

At his best, Riise is a good attacking full-back. He is not the greatest defensively so when his form is not so good going forward, he should not be picked. He has been in pretty poor form for a while as people have already stated, his defensive prowess is not good enough to make him 1st choice full back

Why would you have Riise in your team?  ???

He's brain dead. All he does is hoof and conceed possession. He doesn't use his attributes in the same way Heskey doesn't. Nothing more than a squad player.

Riise's form has suffered but I don't like the way so many fans have turned there back on him.

So we should include Riise for what reason - sympathy? On form he is terrific, but he is neither a good full back nor a good winger - we have to have players in the team who are good in whichever position. I would have him in the squad though

Riise's poor form over the past year or so pretty much reflects the form of the team as a whole. It's very easy to point the finger and say he hoofs it or he loses posession all the time. The truth is, in a team with little movement and width the hoof is sometimes the only option on offer.  :D

People have called him brainless, said he is not good enough to be at Liverpool ans saying anyone should be in the team instead of him, I bet they weren't saying that at the end of his first season.

He's a good player, we've all seen what he can do, i'm sure you all haven't forgot!!!  He was exciting once, a bargain at £4 million, he has just lost a bit of confidence, that's all.

A spell out of the team might bode him well, he could come back as lot fresher and hungrier if the team does well without him.  He's well worth a place in the squad though.

Sadly,Riise has become a victim of the GH philosophy,by-pass the midfield with a big boot upto Heskey and Owen. This syndrome has affected Hyypia,Henchoz,Traore,Vignal to name a few. It's no coincidence that when Heskey leaves the field the ball stays on the ground, and to a degree the same can be said when Owen isn't playing. The team have to keep the ball and pass it through the midfield.
