I was just wandering what people thought on the subject. I know most people will say houllier, but dont forget that under evans we played brilliant flowing attacking football that everyone would love to see these days, also he never finished lower than fourth, which back then wasnt enough to get you into the champions league

I really dont think it matters what we played like it only matters how successful we were. :;):

Houllier for all his faults is (or was) better than Evans. I don't think Evans could've brought us the uefa cup. Surely we can all remember the feeling of optimism when we started to improve once GH took sole charge?

OK, that's now a distant memory but I don't think we'd have felt that under Evans

Evans always seemed like a caretaker mgr. GH did get off to a good start (amazing how players respond to a new mgr) but gradually lost it.Picking one above the other is a bit like asking would I rather be shot or hung. :(

.......more time and more money. Their two records are very similar in the league and that is the measure by which I judge, so Evans gets it ahead of Houllier because he had less to work with

Houllier, no question.

He won loads of trophies more than Evans, but I prefer Roy Evans's formation than Houllier's formation.

but two of those trophies were the Worthless Cup which was competed this season by Boro and Bolton ffs! Evans lost an FA Cup final to the mancs in 1996 which would have taken his tally to two and he spent a lot less, had less time in charge and had to pick up the pieces from Souness. Houllier inherited a team with Matteo, Carragher, James, Redknapp, McManaman, Fowler, a young Owen and one or two other decent players.

Evans finished third twice and fourth twice, his record is much underrated by all
