Clearly we will buy at least one striker as it appears that Rafa has finally bitten the bullet on Morientes and accepted he'll never make it. Many will laugh, but I've got a sneaking feeling that the lack of interested parties and a fledgling ability to play wide right may mean that Cisse will not be sold. His movement against WBA where he kept tracking inside the full-back almost every time we got the ball, had the distinct look of a training ground tutorial to me and transformed him as a player. If, and it'a a big if where Cisse is concerned, he has the intelligence to use the ploy a little more sparingly and put the full-back in the difficult position of not knowing exactly which way he is going to track, then he will cause many a left-back problems with his pace. I'm not suggesting he'll be first-choice right-side, but he may be a valuable alternative to whoever we do get in that position.
As for the striker to come in (I'm assuming that Crouch and Fowler stay) I think the Arsenal/Juve game was an education. When you hear of these exotic sounding superstars possibly being available the heart quickens with images of them tearing up opposition defences for fun, with a Henriesque bid for World player of the year a formality. The reality is however you could be staring down the gunbarrel at Trezuget or that Swedish fella (I can't spell the Frenchmans name so I'm not even going to try wuith his). Nine points clear in Serie A? Jeez if that's not an ordinary team I haven't seen one and it follows, an ordinary league. The strikers were an embarassment and I personally wouldn't consider either of them.
To cut a long story short, from the couple of clips I've seen David Villa looks like the one to me. That said, I'm sure Rafa will buy somebody cheaper and less well known. I've also got a feeling we'll sign that young Argentinian kid who looks a fantastic prospect so it should be an exciting season anyway.
