Which liverpool game left you devastated.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Its great when we can look back in the record books and relive
some wonderful games. But what about the games we have lost.

Being beaten by Manchester United in two FA cup finals, losing to Wimbledon in another one, unthinkable. We as Liverpool supporters are fortunate to follow the most successful team in British football history. We have certainly had our highs, but we have all felt the pain of defeat.

For me personally the 1971 FA Cup final was the game that left me devastated.Arsenal 2 Liverpool 1.
I was 11 years old at the time, and the sight of Charlie George
striking the winner from outside the box sickened me,35 years
later it still does.Occasionaly the goal is rerun on tv with good old Charlie lying on his back, waiting to be congratulated by his team mates.Ihated him then and I still hate him now.

Which defeat left you as sick as a parrot.

Its too painful.. No..

:D

For me, I would name 2 games.

In recent history, Liverpool vs Benfica left me totally disappointed. We should have won that game. It came out of nowhere, we were heavy favorites to advance to the next round but I guess the same lady luck who smiled down upon us a year ago had a cruel change of heart and blessed Benfica instead.

And I was so confident of us winning the Champions League twice in a row.

The second one has to be Liverpool vs Manchester United.

4-0.

Nothing else has to be said.  :(

Any game we lose against manure. That is the worst because of all the glory boys who know that you're a red & let you know the cockney mancs have won.

The one that hurt the most was definitely the '88 cup final against Wimbledon.
The '96 final isn't too far behind.
The problem with Cup final defeats is that they fester away all summer until the next match of the new season.

The one that sticks with me and  instanly springs to mind is when Arsenal beat us 2-0 in the 88-89 season to win the league. God that was horrible seeing Michael Thomas score the second goal, and I can honestly say I've NEVER balled so much.   :(  but I was a lot younger :D .

I'd have to say 88 when Wimbledon beat us 1-0 in the final (my uncles took me), and the games Man U have beaten us, 1-0 last year and the 4-0 at Anfield spring to mind

1-0 F.A Cup Final vs Man Utd, I believe it was a decade ago now.

4-1 to Chelsea at Anfield

losing 3-1 (I think) to Celta Vigo in the UEFA Cup quite a few seasons back left me horribly gutted, especially after we'd completely demolished FC Kosiche in the round before 7-0 on aggregate. I thought the cup was ours to lose that year :(

The FA cup final against Wimbledon .

I was in Thailand at the time watching in a bar . Was roaring drunk and immensely happy when we kicked off , but by the end I was stone cold sober and totally fked off. I stormed out the bar and didn't touch another drink for all of 48 hours ( for a while there I'd lost the will to party, even in Thailand   :(  )

If we are talkin about this season I think the Fulham game comes to mind most. Here was Team who I dont think won more than one away game all year but they managed to put 2 past us.

I remember Garcia pulling a great save from the keeper and I thought a few more minutes and we can nick a point maybe.

It was not to be but the thing what infuriated me the most about that game and many other was the sheer manner we would play in the League after a European game.

88-89 season v Arsenal. I was 11 years old and I cried. My Dad said, 'don't worry, we'll win it next year' - and we did! He did however conveniently forgot to tell me that it would be another 16 years after that until we won it again :)

i like to think i'm pretty good at letting things heal with time, so although the wimbledon final was painful and final against man u was nasty i have to go with a more recent game.

it might 'only' be the league cup final but the one with chelsea at the end of last season was particularly grim. we led for nearly the whole game after an absolute belter from riise in the opening seconds, but then for them to equalise with an own goal from gerrard, of all people, and then go on to win it... what can you say?

failing that it would be the 4-1 drubbing they gave us at anfield. i can still hear those clueless chelsea fan gimps chanting 'that's why we're champions' - in our f.ucking ground

I would say wimbledon or the infamous Thomas goal for Arsenal. however I wasn't exactly old enough to understand the importance of those games at the time so I will say either 1996 fa cup final or bayer leverkuson a few years ago.
