Premier League - WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Ronnie Rosenthal

Previous Clubs: Maccabi Haifa, FC Brugge, Standard Liege, Luton Town, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Watford

Last Appearance in the Premiership: Everton 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur, 12/04/1997

That miss. Mention the name Ronnie Rosenthal to any Premiership fan and they will remember the Israeli for that miss against Aston Villa in 1992. Clean through, Rosenthal skipped round Villa goalkeeper Nigel Spink and, with the goal wide open, he leant back and side-footed the ball against the bar, to the derision of an hysterical Holte End. Until that point, Rosenthal was better known for shooting to fame by scoring a hat-trick on his full debut for Liverpool against Charlton Athletic in 1990. After scoring seven goals in eight games that helped Liverpool win their 18th league title, his loan deal from Standard Liege was made permanent by Reds manager Kenny Dalglish. Rosenthal’s explosive pace, dribbling and trickery added an extra dimension to Liverpool's attack, and his nuisance factor made him a very useful weapon from the bench. He was a handful for any defence with his direct running and thunderbolt shot but Rosenthal’s Anfield career, in which he scored 22 goals in 97 games, stagnated when he became pigeon-holed as a super-sub. It was a little unfair because his game caused defences real problems, whether or not he was on from the start, but by the time a young scoring sensation called Robbie Fowler had burst onto the scene in 1993, Rosenthal’s Liverpool days were numbered. The fans’ favourite left for Tottenham Hotspur but he failed to shake the super-sub tag, although that meant headline-grabbing moments such as the night he came on at Southampton with Spurs trailing 2-0 in the FA Cup and proceeded to score a stunning hat-trick to win the game for the visitors. He dropped down a division in 1997 to join Watford and his last season as a player ended with the Hornets gaining promotion to the Premiership. Rosenthal is now a football agent. Premier League
