Off field issues have always effected Owens play and I'm wondering if the Gerrard fiasco is having side effects

I don't think the southenders do deliveries in N Wales - suppose he could call it in from Rhyl though?

owen was showing signs of getting back to his normal self last night which is good signs for england. before the tournament, my concerns were that we would struggle to score enough goals if owen wasn't firing. however the emergence of rooney and lampard have helped get rid of these fears. :)

i felt if lampard had been a little less selfish we could of had a couple of extra goal as the 3 shot he had that did not go on target Owen was in just the right spot for a good shot across the keeper. And even scholes was in a better position for the others as well.

Owen is still not showing ehough fight. He is not demanding the ball like he should. His first touch is there which is good to see but he needs a goal desperatly as the longer it goes on the worse he will feel.

Owen is clearly lacking confidence.
I watched his '98 goal against Argentina (again) last night.  I don't think Owen could accelerate past a defence now like he did back then.  Physically, he is stronger now, and has a stonger upper body but I think the lighter version of Owen was faster and able to round defenders more easily.  I haven't seen him do that for a long time.

i don't think he's lost his pace, i just think he's lost the acceleration over 5-10 yards which took him past and away from defenders. obviously, persistent hamstring injuries don't help his cause. :(

I'm not much of a footballer but do tog out every Sunday morning to play for my local team.  I pulled my hamstring for the first time about 5 years ago and every season it tends to go again at least once.  Mentally, i'm always conscious that if I sprint I will pull the muscle.  As a result I try not to sprint at 100% unless I really have to.  I reckon this happens every player (good or bad) that suffers from this injury and Michael Owen is probabaly no different.

There is nothing wrong with Owen - Just because the Crocky bike robber is doing it doesn't mean that Owen isn't.

If friggin Maradona was in Owen's position it wouldn't be much different. How many superstars can you get into one teram ?

people calling for owen to be dropped before yesterdays game know nothing about football, end of story. he's the most prolific marksman in our recent history and will go on to be england's all time record scorer. he does it when it really matters, and that is the mark of a world class player.

if you drop owen you may as well put tim henman upfront. he can put the ball in the net from anywhere! :D  :p

Ha ha !!!!!

Actually, Tim Henman must be the only man in England unhappy with Rooney.  Normally, this is Henman's one week of press coverage in the year.
