It's fact. We beat the mancs without Gerrard and Torres, pretty sure we can beat pompey and mancs mark2.

we have decent players. They did not suddenly get real poor. Some of the people on here should spend a little more time just being a lil bit positive.

turn those frowns upside down, we're far from out of it yet. And for those who think it's all over, go buy a man city shirt or whoever else has the most money.
I support Liverpool, no matter who plays for them... death or glory.

Sabre wrote:I read somewhere yesterday that Bigmick said that without Gerrard, this team wouldn't be in the top four.

I've been searching that quote, but I haven't found it today, if necessary merge this thread with another thread.

The thing is I disagree. And by saying that I'm not trying to say Gerrard isn't crucial, he's the best player of the squad.

In the same post Bigmick said that Chelsea aren't a shadow of what they used to be. However, even without being a shadow, they're still the second most tough team we can face in this league, and they haven't dropped from top four.

The reason of that, IMHO, is that despite they are weaker than Mourinho's Chelsea, there's a big gap between the top four and the rest of the teams.

So, I honestly think, that if we lost Gerrard, we'd lose the best player of the squad, and be a worse team, but we'd still be one of the top four. Saying otherwise IMHO is a lack of football respect to Mascherano, Alonso, Reina, Torres... they have a quality that Aston Villa or West Ham or Tottenham would definitely like to have.

In the long term, we'll have to think about Gerrard's replacement when he retires. And in that moment we'd better have a good team to fill that gap.

So, how crucial is Gerrard in your opinion? would we be sixth or fifth if he wasn't here?

IMHO no, we'd still be top four, but we wouldn't be challenging for the title this year for instance.

Nearly everything in LFC is payed through Gerrard. He's rescued us so many times I lost count. He's absolutely essential to the success of the squad.

Without Gerrard, it's doubtful that this Liverpool team would even get a sinff of 4th spot.

Great, so we have to rely on OG's and lucky goals for wins.

Marvelous.

I maybe new as a poster but I have read this forum for years.

Recently, I have been observing something ridiculous in this forum. I really don't understand how and why almost EACH and EVERY thread would slowly (but surely) turn into a place just for "in-fighting", often on issues totally unrelated to the topic itself. One poster comments on something, then another person comments on the comment, and the next person comments on the comment of the comment... and the fight continues.

So you post your arguments & thoughts on the topic, in hope of some decent replies or new refreshing thoughts in return.. Only to come back and find PAGES of "one-liners", name-calling and insults to and fro. Before you know it, your post is already "lost in words" and probably be completely ignored.. :no

This thread is no different. It started well but at the same risk now. :no

My two cents worth.

Now we are starting to pay for the failure of Rafa in building a deep talented squad - you can't rely on one striker and you can't rely on one Gerrard - this is purely insane you can't build a team which will contend for all titles with such a short linup and have the nerve coming with a line like "yes we have n`gong and nemeth" this is BS ,Rafa is a genious but he thinks us all for idiots - we play each game as if it was a cup game ,playing for a small result and that's it - this isn't enough we need to be prepared for a long season with big talented squad and not hope for a prayer - it's a joke that the contender for the permiership hasn't got one striker if Torres is hurt ,and now that Gerrard is missing we have another huge gap in our lineup - this is really bad managment risk taking which could cost us the season - it already cost us the cup.

Your right Milou it is a shame - it also seems that every single thread turns into a Rafa slagging session or a chance to have a pop at Kuyt/Lucas etc etc etc /
