What if...?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

what if, and its a purely hypothetical what if, things actually begin to really improve under the current twaats owners?

as people have mentioned, the current positive statements coming from them may well be a huge PR response to the embarrassment caused by hicks junior. but what if there is actually some weight behind their words? in the last few days we have heard that torres and gerrard will absolutely not be sold to service the debt, that the summer transfer window 'will be big', that if we make a few million on sales this month we can reinvest it in players this month, that they are seriously looking at (and maybe even close to) fresh investment, that they won't rule out a full hand over and that the new stadium work will begin in the spring. there's also the talk about a 25 million deal for chamakh - though it think that's probably bollox.

we've also been cast in a relatively favourable light by the recent press about the truly desperate state of the finances down the east lancs (or M62 if you like to travel fast). it also seems that the glazers have dipped into club funds to line their own pockets, which is something i don't think our two have even stooped to yet. correct me if i'm wrong though.

personally i think that a big summer transfer spend (on the correct players) and actual progress with the new stadium represents significant benefit and progress for the club, and about time too. so what if this represents a turning of the proverbial corner? what if it turns out that after all they will do their best for the club and that it was just a particularly difficult honeymoon period?

most of us accept that they have acted like a pair of barstads and the outcry against them is wholly justified. i'm just wondering if people would be prepared to put the past behind them if... IF... it looks like they might start doing something to not just repair the damage, but to begin to take the club in the direction it should be going.

this isn't meant to be any attempt to play devil's advocate, or to stir any shyte, i'ts just that the idea popped into my head as i browsed the football pages earlier today.

If we play like we are in the second half of this Reading game thing WILL improve on the pitch atleast. Playing way better without Gezza and Torra. I'd rather they not play atall if they have any injury problems. Torres - If the guy isnt injured off the pitch he constantly seems to be carrying niggles on it ffs. Sort it out.

Gezza and Torra....interesting...
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

RIP LFC.  Haven't been on here for a long time.  I Prefer to read what everyone has to say BUT tonight I have been brought to tears watching the team that I have supported all my life. Shankly, God Bless him would be turning in his grave watching this team of overpaid second rate imposters.  With the exception of Gerrard and Torres I would sack the lot of them along with the overated so called manager.  I feel that I have sunk to the very lowest point now.  I know that I will be slated by the hardened posters on here but I honestly cant see any one of you come on here and find a positive.  We put out the strongest possible team tonight and were beaten by a struggling championship side. I will never stop supporting my club but think we should all be wearing a black armband tomorrow in mourning for the club we were.

Hey... we are Liverpool fans. We were lucky enough to support the club through the 70's, 80's & 90's. What happend to change the club, well Souness for a start. He tried to make too many changes to quickly. Wanted to do things his way, when Roy Evans took over the team we went back to the boot room way we were a good side that played the Liverpool way and I believe that if more faith had been put on him and given time that side would have acheived things. Houllier came in and things began to change. I liked Houllier is heart was in Liverpool he loved the club but he started to bring in too many foreign players who didn't know the Liverpool way and there is a Lverpool way no matter what anybody says it's there and still there, and thats when Liverpool changed. The new owners won't get it right. They said that they would not use the club to finance debts, provide funds to buy the best players and build a ground with an increased capacity so that we can rival manu, arsenal and chelsea. Have they kept to that no. They say the right things to try to appease the fans but they don't deserve to be owners of a great club, Moores must be wondering what he has done!
You then have to look at Benitez. I like him but there is something thats not right. He's stubborn , won't change system  like zonal marking, playing players that imo regularly don't perform and the scouting staff. How many players have we bought that have moved on after a couple  of seasons, the money that has been wasted. To me the team look like they don't want to play for him, there's a lot of emphasis on Gerrard and Torres they don't make a team. When Gerrard went off tonight Jake Spearing should have come on and Kuyt who is a striker gone up fron with Ngog.
But the answer what if..it won't happen and if we don't change things soon with the players, owners, and even the merchandise that compared to other clubs is nominal, we will struggle to break into the top 4 yet alone win the league and then that will start to become a regular thing. Nothing the owner can do will make it right. We need to become a british club again... serioulsy
