What can we do... - To get out of this mess

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Objective and constructive responses, people. None of the what is now obligatory and predictable "sack Rafa" responses, please. I'll leave it to the mods to close the thread should one or two decide to hijack the thread with that nonsese. There's only about 20 other f*cking threads on here advocating that, and if you are of that view then voice it in the thread specified.

The point of this thread is to break up the usual plethora of negative bile that's polluting the forum lately. I'd like to have constructive answers on where we can posibly go from here in order to stop the rot. Potential formations, players dropped, etc etc. Even critique on Rafa's tactics, but NO smart ar$e one line posts calling for the sacking of Benitez.

Get the players fighting ,

get the top players fit and on form , get some passion in them and the main thing is get two or three wins in a row to install confidence .

Play Aurelio left back , Aquilani in the middle with either Masher or Lucas against teams who will park the bus ,get reira wide and on form , get gerrard and torres linking together again , get kuyt to find his form of last season . Get rid of those stupid defensive errors and ffs if we go a goal down then dig deeper and fight even more .

Start showing some belief in themselves and playing as well as we know they can and have done many times in the past .

And us as fans get behind them the minute they step out onto the pitch , never stop chanting or cheering or singing and raise the roof - get onto things like talksh.ite and show our support of them.

tbh thats the only possible answer, but i wont go there.

to get out this mess rafa imo needs to change to 4-4-2, he needs to drop kuyt, kuyt isnt in form at all. he needs to try and motivate the players in such a way that they gain some confidence. he needs to go for the jugular against lesser teams like we did in the last quarter of last season. and he needs to sign a LW and a striker and in the jan window.

Like Benny said, in a nutshell, it's all about the team waking up and playing up to their potential.  When fully fit we've seen (aside from the midfielder who shall not be named who left for Spain) that this group of players is capable of playing some great football.

After a rough start this group's confidence seems absolutely shattered.  The look of the team on Sunday after the own goal, it was just pathetic.  It was written on their faces and in their body language.  It was for the most part a team of players that were collectively seeming to be happy to get rid of the ball and let their teamates try to pick them up.

We need our leaders to lead and our depth players to step it up when called upon.

All I want to see is this team play up to it's capabilities, and to at least look arsed if they aren't quite there.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Short term  :- change to 4-4-2 and drop Gerrard back into CM. Get the players playing for each other and fighting for the team. Be less predictable in subs and make tactical changes early rather than reacting to what the opposition do.

Longer term  :- We need players that fight for the team in EVERY game not just the big games. We need inspiration as well as persperation. Arshavin showed just how important that is. In past seasons we have been able to rely on Gerrard to turn games on their heads in this fashion, we need more players with the ability to stand up and be counted.

Change of manager. I know its not popular, but I do believe a new man could turn things around quicker and more effectively than Rafa can.

Little to argue with so far. I think we can agree that we need to:

"Get the players fighting, Get the players on form, and to instill some confidence in them"
"Get the players to start showing some belief in themselves"
The team needs to "wake up and start playing to their potential".
The teams confidence "seems absolutely shattered", the look of them is "pathetic", it is "written in their faces and their body language". They look like "a team of players who are collectively happy to get rid of the ball".

We also definately need to "see this team play up to its capabilities, and to at least look arsed if they aren't quite there".

I'm all for all of that, top stuff. Given Emeralds understandable determination though to have a thread which doesn't go down the usual route, I'll leave it to others to explain how we are going to get there, and who is going to instill all these things into the players.

mick the worrying thing though is this.

we actually dont have that many great players, and the squad we have we could probably even say in last quarter of last season they over achieved.

I think Hassaelbaink managed to finish top scorer in La Liga one year with Atletico and they still got relegated.  :D

Was looking at the squad list today. I can't believe we have not 1 but 3 players we got on a free.  :no

I know Glen Johnson is a full back but perhaps they should start him as winger instead. He's demonstrated he can dribble and beat players with his speed as well as put up some decent crosses. It can almost be argued he's a better offensive than defensive player at this point.

If Rafa is willing to try Aurelio in the midfield, why not Johnson?

Like the thread suggest, something to shake things up because it does need some shaking.
