Diouf sued by fan over spitting Jul 20 2004

LIVERPOOL FC star El Hadji Diouf is being sued for £50,000 damages by a football supporter he spat at.

Celtic fan Dominic Schiavone is also seeking compensation from the club.

Diouf spat at Mr Schiavone during a UEFA Cup tie in Glasgow last year.

The supporter claims he has been so traumatised since the incident that he has been unable to return to the stadium since.

And he alleges he has also suffered "distress and anxiety" during that time.

The proceedings have been issued from the Sheriff Court, Glasgow, against Diouf and Liverpool FC.

According to the papers, his lawyers are "claiming to grant a decree in the sum of £50,000 plus interest."

Neither Liverpool FC or Mr Schiavone's solicitors were available for comment.

Liverpool are getting sued aswell maybe this guy wants to give the 50 grand to MON so he can buy 3 new players

50 grand ? thats nothing , he can afford it , i think he should pay 100 grand and be banned from driving for two years , that would make him stop and think before spitting sandwiches at people!

that must of been the best day in that blokes life dont forget he also attended the 2nd leg with a mate as Diouffs guest, got a signed shirt, got to be famous for 5 mins and now gets £50K

...and the amount of times players..especially players of colour (though not in this case) face abuse, coin throwing etc.... how may fans would be bankcrupted if the players took legal action for compensation?

Sounds like a Celt's fan out of a job to me

Agree with you, zarababe.

What about the abuse that particular Celtic fan dished out to Diouf to provoke his spitting reaction?

If this is a precedent case, should the player spat at by Totti sue him for 10 times or 20 times more?

I just think that this will encourage more abuse from fans if they think they are going to get a payoff off a backlash from a player what about when alan smith thru that bottle is she gona put a compo bid in now?

Not many as you'd have to identify them first.

However I'm sure a case could be made against any club by a player as the club are responsible for the welfare of everyone in the ground players and fans alike.
