" I'm no Kop flop - Nunez

Liverpool winger Antonio Nunez will move to Celta Vigo next week insisting his brief stay at Anfield was not a failure.

Nunez arrived at Liverpool as part of the deal which took Michael Owen to Real Madrid but injured himself in his very first training session and played only a peripheral role for the rest of the season.

A rare highlight for the Spaniard was a goal in the Carling Cup final but he has no complaints about his time with the European Champions.

He told the club's website: "At Liverpool I had few opportunities and that isn't good for a footballer.

"Rafa was clear with me and explained I wasn't going to be in his plans for this coming season.

"In spite of my injuries I learned a lot at Liverpool and it's an experience that will stay with me for ever. I don't consider that I failed in the Premier League."

seems like a reasonable comment to me. he never set anfield on fire but he was never really given the chance to get his game together with a decent run. he was surplus to requirements since the day he arrived in all truth.

The boy was poor and in my eyes was a failure, he had plenty of opportunities to prove himself!

Who cares. We've said our goodbyes, if he wants to end up as an old man in 50 years still bleating about being part of the squad that won the CL in 2005, let him. If he wants to say he was a success, or that he didn't have the ops, let him. We all have our own opinions, so who really gives a rodent's rump what he says. :blues:

What'd Nunez do to deserve that sort of stick? Ok he was not good enough and he was surplus to requirements, but his comments seem fine to me, get a grip.

Well excuse me, i thought this was a forum where people who love the greatest club in the world can express there views! In his statement he claimed he wasn't a kop flop, i disagree, simple as that. Sorry if i feel more pasionate about poor players coming to our club than you do. especially when he came as part of a deal that we got ripped off for in the first place! !

I just think it's unfair to slate the guy after he has left the club on good terms. He was never going to light the world on fire as he asn't the player Rafa wnated in the Owen dela, it was Juanfran. Unfortuantley Real woudln't let Juanfran leave so we got Nunez instead who was a reserve player for Real.

The right decision has been made in letting him go as he was not good neough, I agree with you on that.

Ian RRF.. actually I think you'll find that we cut our losses.. after the 'deal' you refer to was orchestrated by the representative of a certain Mr Owen.. who had initially promised to extent his contract...

Nunez is a good professional, even though he didnt match it in terms of skills. He's had his fair share of bad luck, especially with that injury even b4 he kicked a ball when he first arrived. But he has never complained of lack of first team opportunites and there were several games in which he performed admirably when called upon.

He doesnt deserve the stick you're giving him. He didnt quite make the cut here at anfield but we wish him all the best at his new club.

Nunez is a good professional

Then why did he state he was no flop, and that his time at anfield was not a failure, Liverpool fans expected good things from him, allbeit he was 25 and still hadn't played a game for madrid but we expected more from the MO deal. Sorry if some people think i'm being harsh but he should have said yes i was a flop and yes the time at anfield was a failure for both me and the club, this is all i have to say on the point!

Life's to short to be a hater! lol but he did look and play like Mr Bean

:D

Thinking baout it, we may not have won number 5 if it was not for Nunez. Against Olympiakos for Mellor's goal it was Nunez' header (whcih nearly went in on it's own) that resulted in Mellor having the chance for his goal. For that alone he made a great contribution and was worth having at the club albeit for one season. :D
