What a cheek - Nunez!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

The guy just wasn't good enough, fair enough.  At least he gave 100% when he was on the pitch though, he never shirked a challenge.

I suppose you could call him a flop because he didn't really do the business.  You can say that he had injuries and that it was his first season in England etc, but you could say the same for Alonso and he was superb last season when fit.

But you can't really expect the guy to call himself a 'flop' can you?  From his point of view he was injured a lot and didn't play that many games in a side that struggled as a team for much of the league campaign.  He will probably go back to Spain a better player with his experience of playing in a foreign league, so from his point of view it probably wasn't a wasted season.

Thinking baout it, we may not have won number 5 if it was not for Nunez. Against Olympiakos for Mellor's goal it was Nunez' header (whcih nearly went in on it's own) that resulted in Mellor having the chance for his goal. For that alone he made a great contribution and was worth having at the club albeit for one season.

LMAO - Thats the most absured, funny but strangly compelling argument i've heard for any players case to be accepted! :D :D :D

by this token of rationale surely then even the worst players in a team who've played a game are to be honoured as maybe in the 23rd minute of a game they won a throw in which resulted in..................you get the p[icture!

LMAO

Cheek...Nunez didn't have a great season but his comments may still ring true. He said "I  don't consider that I failed in the Premier League." Backing it up he stated that he learned many things while he was with us. If he learned and improved more than he would have while at Real, his time may not necessarily be a failure. I don't think any of us expected him to set the world alight - our expectations of him were all mixed as some were optimistic whilst others were unsure. The injury right at the start of the season didn't help a bit either. Also, he did have limited oppurtunities and didn't bitch about it until now.

If he learned and improved as a player with us, then Nunez has achieved something as a player individually. Perhaps that is what the comments were meant to portray.

To give him slack over those comments is a bit impetuous and I think innappropriate

It's hard to imagine any player ever saying that the reason he didn't make it at a club is because he wasn't good enough. "Truth is mate I was sh!te and I don't blame Rafa for not playing me. Can't believe some other mugs have come in for me to be honest" is not up there with "over the moon" in terms of most used footballers quotes.
He hasn't slagged the club or Rafa in any way and I for one wish the lad all the best.

at least,he didn't complained about having played few games and admitted he learned a lot with the Reds.its a pity he didn't showed much impact while with us but good luck to him.

He'll do better this season with a fresh start. How fit could he have been? He didn't play for the Real first team and they don't have a reserve team. Then he gets badly injured pre-season. Plus, in his position you really need some pace and fitness. I think the real Nunez is better than we think. All the best Antonio!

I think his comments are respectful, accurate and toitally fair. He could have had a parting shot but he tells us how he will never forget his time at our great club and I respect him for that. farewell Tony, thanks for your service and best of luck....as fo reveryone else, leave the bloke alone.
