Weekend Fixtures

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby jacdaniel » Thu Jan 30, 2014 12:19 pm

1st Feb:

Everton vs Villa
Hull vs Spurs
Stoke vs Man Utd

2nd Feb:

West Brom vs Liverpool
Arsenal vs Palace

3rd Feb:

City vs Chelsea

So we're playing on Sunday this weekend and all our closest rivals on saturday.  Sometimes a good thing but sometimes a bad thing.
All our opponents win and there is pressure for us to win on Sunday.
All our opponents drop points and perhaps we can relax a little bit and dream of pulling further away.

It looks like a lot of tricky fixtures this weekend and see some teams potentially dropping points although its hard to predict who it will be.

Villa could possibly take points off the bitters but they'll be looking to put in a strong performance after the derby and i think they'll get the 3 points.
Hull can be an awkward team to play but I also think Spurs will just about pick up the 3 points.
United have a tough game away to Stoke and there is a real possibility of them dropping points.

West Brom away will also be a tricky game for us.  We desperately need the 3 points though.  Our following game is Arsenal so we can't afford to drop anything here.

I'm hoping that by Monday night we are right on Chelsea's tail and have pulled further away from some of our 4th spot rivals.

Predictions anyone?

I reckon Everton will struggle against Villa as they have a lot of injuries, probably a draw. Will be interesting to see how spurs deal with their fourth thrashing of the season, has Sherwoods bubble burst??? He's coming out saying City best in the world but thats to deflect another 5 goals conceded at home.

I think there is potential for everyone to drop points although not everyone will.  Villa be tough for Everton.  Hull is tricky for Spurs and Stoke won't be any way easy for the Mancs.  West Brom will be tricky for us too, we'll need to play well to get the 3 points.

If we get 3 points though and any of Everton, Spurs or United drop points it will be another big boost for us.

Hopefully we can go into the Arsenal game with a nothing to lose approach.

To be honest I don't expect us to trip up at west brom, with us putting a bit of distance between our closest rivals for champs league place i reckon the players will be well up for it and we won't see the complacency of the villa game.

I really hope so.  it would be great to go into the Arsenal game knowing that we'd be 4th at full time regardless of the result.
Would take a lot of pressure off the lads and might allow us to play with a lot more freedom.

Like Arsenal and City, we also have a huge 15 day gap after next week round of games.

8th March
Liverpool P-P Sunderland (League Cup clash)
Arsenal P-P Swansea (FA Cup clash)
Man City P-P Aston Villa (League Cup clash)

Assuming City beat Wigan in their rearranged FA Cup:

12th April
Liverpool P-P Man City (FA Cup Semi clash)

Liverpool's potential games in hand:
Arsenal = 1
Chelsea = 2

City potential games in hand:
Liverpool  = 1
Arsenal   = 2
Chelsea = 3

Not sure which rearranged fixture would slot between Palace and Newcastle as our penultimate home game? (City or Sunderland)?

I would imagine that the Sunderland game will be rescheduled for an evening game - probably a CL night.

The City game will be a Monday I am sure, they'll get screwed one week playing twice in a few days.
