’SECOND BEST’ MILAN FEAR FOR FINAL
The Guardian

Liverpool will be glad to hear Milan are feeling the effects of a draining season as the Champions League final approaches.

Tiredness was a common complaint from their coach Carlo Ancelotti and his players after they scraped past PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night.

A 3-1 defeat in Holland proved good enough for Milan to win on away goals but they were poor and a congested fixture list is apparently taking its toll as they seek to win both Serie A and the European Cup.

Wednesday's game was their ninth in 29 days - Liverpool reached the same number against Chelsea - and there will be no respite for Milan as they play at home to Juventus in a top-of-the-table encounter on Sunday.

"We were second best," said the Milan defender Alessandro Nesta of the match at PSV. "Undoubtedly we felt the effects of nine games in 29 days; now we have to focus on Juventus. We need to take a breather, we are playing too many matches and we are not machines."

Milan's form has dipped over the past month, although they still lead Serie A on goal difference. Among recent results have been a defeat in Siena, a draw with Brescia and an unconvincing win against Fiorentina last weekend. In the Champions League they were fortunate to beat Eindhoven 2-0 at home and were outplayed away in what the striker Andriy Shevchenko called "an exhausting match".

Ancelotti has not indulged in much rotation and said his players were "very tired", although he suggested they had come through in Eindhoven because of their "excellent level of fitness". He believes the problem is mental as well as physical and that good results will help.

Milan are scheduled to play three times before the final, whereas Liverpool play twice. Rafael Benitez's team have a 10-day break before the game in Istanbul but Milan are at home to Palermo the Sunday before.

Man, was there really need to come up to this board and then act like an idiot?
On Wednesday next May 25th, sit down in front of TV and have fun: the cup won't go to Turin this year either, like usual
