i can't say i know which is the best site for transfers. they all seem to have lots of transfer speculation on them, but until things start happening its all just rumour. therefore i would say there are no good sites for transfers as no-one knows for sure.

having said that, i tend to look at the guardian football pages. the journalism is generally decent quality. i also look at the lfc official site.

It has to be a rather frustrating situation for Benitez. Signing one or maybe even two quality strikers, like i.e. Morientes, Villa, Anelka or Aimar, what happens the day Baros and Cissè are back from injury.
Baros, Cissè, Mellor, Sinama, Morientes/Aimar/Anelka/Villa/Tristan and also Garcia and Kewell as cover. It seems a bit crowded to me  ???

If Hamann isn`t given a new contract, and leaves Anfield during January, we will have a central midfield counting Gerrard, Diao and Biscan until Alonso returns from injury. That doesn`t exactly sound like the mid capable of taking on Chelsea and Arsenal. I hope that Diarra proves to be an asset to the team when his loan-period expires, but I guess that there isn`t any chance of him fielding at Anfield until the end of this season. Seeing Diao among the starting 11 against manure, I sense that it would be like playing 90 mins with one player red carded even before kick off.

I think that we all agreed before kick off this campaign that we were in the need of a class central defender. As things have turned out this could be the only part of our squad that isn`t  strenghtened. Carra has playing like a God and Traore has showed that he wasn`t a horrible football-player after all.

There`s little doubt that we have limited funds to spend on the transfermarket during January. My biggest fear is that if we spend it all on strikers we only push our problems ahead of us. If Hyypia or Carragher gets injured it doesn`t do us any good having 3 top class strikers and two hungry youngsters available ???

I hope that at the end of Jan we`ve signed one top class striker, Hamann is still Red and therer has been brought in a top class central defender with pace and physical strength as his main skills

Right, going on hols back oop North with the wife and kids to see the ma and pa so won't be posting for a bit. Here's my transfer window predictions.
First and foremost, Stevie G to go at the end of the season to Chelski, Rafa already knows. Baros to leave at the end of the season, Rafa already knows.
Therefore, Annelka and Morientes both sign within the week. Aimar signs within the week along with Pellegrino and Carson. All is financed by a handshake agreement with Chelski that they will pay 25 million pounds plus Cuddicini and Parker for Gerrard. Biscan, Diao and Henchoz all leave for a combined fee of 1.5 million pounds. Kirkland leaves at the end of the season for 2 million.
There you go, everyone else is guessing so why shouldn't I?   :;):

For what it`s worth Bigmick, I hope you`re not used to guessing correctly. Even if no player is bigger than the club, it would be heartbreaking to see Gerrard play for another premiership club, or anu other club for that matter.

Happy holiday btw

Liverpool and Monaco told Morientes may stay
By European Football - January 3 2005

Fernando Morientes' agent Gines Carvajal, has stated that his client could very well end off staying at Madrid, if new coach Wanderley Luxemburgo decides he would like to keep the striker. But whatever happens there will certainly be no move before next week.

Carvajal stated: "The Real Madrid president (Florentino Perez) has asked us to wait as he wants to know what the new coach decides.

"We should have confirmation of his decision by next week."

There could still be a good chance of a move away though, with the two destinations favoured by the player said to be Liverpool and Monaco, although his agent was quick to deny that he had, had formal contact with any side:

"We have not started negotiations yet but it's true that there are many clubs who have phoned us to seek information about Morientes,”

"But the probable destination is either the Premiership or France because it's impossible for him to stay in Spain."

Mori might stay at Real

Fernando Morientes could remain at Real Madrid after all following the Spanish clubs appoitment of new manager Wanderley Luxemburgo. The prolific forward has been fourth in the pecking order at the Bernabau under previous managers but the new man may decide to keep him.

Morientes' agent said "The Real Madrid president (Florentino Perez) has asked us to wait as he wants to know what the new coach decides.

"We should have confirmation of his decision by next week."

Liverpool made a £3.5m bid for the striker last month and the player himself said he has made his mind up to join Liverpool and work under Rafael Benitez, whom he said he hugely respects.

With Morientes' move under a cloud, word has begun that Nicolas Anelka will become Benitez's first signing of 2005 - with some reports claiming Anelka has been to Melwood. Talks are said to have taken place with the players representatives in Manchester two weeks ago.

Real reveal Morientes could stay

Morientes has failed to score for Real this season
Real Madrid could block Fernando Morientes' switch to Liverpool if new coach Wanderley Luxemburgo decides he wants to keep the striker.
Morientes appeared to be on the verge of leaving with Ronaldo, Raul and Michael Owen ahead of him in the squad.

But his agent Gines Carvajal said: "The Real Madrid president (Florentino Perez) has asked us to wait as he wants to know what the new coach decides.

"We should have confirmation of his decision by next week."

Newcastle have also been linked with a move for the Spaniard, but Carvajal insisted he had not spoken directly to any club.

Should Morientes sign for Liverpool?
"We have not started negotiations yet but it's true that there are many clubs who have phoned us to seek information about Morientes," said Carvajal.

"But the probable destination is either the Premiership or France because it's impossible for him to stay in Spain."

Liverpool are reported to have made a £3.5m bid for the 28-year-old, which was rejected by the Spanish club.

We have so thin squad now, that I won't sell anyone except Henchoz (and f***ing Diouf of course)!

Each additional sell should be in replacement of a quality purchase. Sell Dudek only if we get a class keeper, sell Biscan only if we get Aimar or similar. Sell Pongo and Mellor = get Morientes + another (younger) top striker!

I don't think Diao will be sold, as he is obviously liked by the manager.

First post so go easy  :D

For whatever reason it looks like Rafa prefers Diao to Biscan (God knows why but there you go) and Igor looks to be on his way. (Possibly on high wages that could be freed up for new signings)

I dont see why Potter or Welsh cant be given a go instead of Diao who lets face it doesnt have much ability.

As for transfers if Anelka can keep his head together he would be a really good signing (He looked very good in his short loan spell at the club) with the added bonus of not being cup tied in the Champs League (Unlike Morientes - who appears to be liked by Luxemburgo)

I gotta say, almost everythin Benitez has done this season I think should be applauded, but why does he stick with Salif Diao? someone somewhere surely wants him, so we could pull in close on 25p to put towards Morientes!
As for the possibility of sellin Kirkland....why not, he's too injury prone unfortunately, and not the inspirin 'keeper we all thought he could be when he signed from Cov.
I wanna see Morientes above any other player here, someone with experience to help out Pongo and Mellor. Anelka's a possibility I know, but he only hangs around for a while then says he wants to play for a 'big club', and I'm sorry.....they don't come any bigger than LFC. Even if it is jus past glory I'm tradin on.
Stu Averill, a wannabe Scouse/Scot. I remember the good times & have faith in them comin back

Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road
