TOULOUSE VS LIVERPOOL - build up/in game/ reaction

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Think we shouldn't need to rest anyone, even with Chelsea on Sunday its still the beginning of the season and the one's who'll be mainstay's in the team need minutes on the pitch to gel, although I do think that the likes of Babel, Masch and Benayoun should get their chance, all these are potential world beaters and Mascherano would be first choice with Gerrard in the middle every week.

Reall want to see Gerrard strike up that same uderstandingwiht Torres that he had with Owen a few years back, will only come with the more time they spend together on the pitch!!!

3-0 to us if he plays the big boys, 1-0 if its a weaker less adventurous side leaving it to do at Anfield, we should kill these sides off in the first leg Everytime.

all this "rest key players"........crazy

we aint playing a micky mouse friendly?

this team is good and if we bodge it up by playing a weakened team we could go out of the champs league.

I agree. Rafa will undoubtedly make some changes from Saturdays starting 11 but hopefully Gerrard and Torres will not be among them. Knock in a couple of away goals and then maybe give Gerrard and Carragher a "rest" by bringing on Alonso  and Hypia.

I'd like to see us start with.

.                              Reina

.    Finnan        Carragher   Agger       Arbeloa

.  Benayoun      Gerrard       Masherano       Babel

.                                  Torres
.                       Crouch

I like the look of that side, Woof.  Resting a bunch of players for this game is a bit silly, even if we are playing Chelsea on Sunday.  Let's score early and often, kill the tie off and rest players for the return leg at Anfield.

Even with the discounts of Bicester village, clothes are cheaper in France !  :)

Anyway, Gerrard, Torres and Crouch are not injured yet ?  :D

Because our defenders are not really used to play together. Please be nice :p ! Usually, we play with Congre and Arribage who are out for 1 month more  :(

Yes that would be a reasonable line up. Toulouse is not as easy as Maccabi so we need to take them very seriously despite their injuries.

Once qualified, you can speculate with the line ups and rotate in the mini CL first stage league. I think that even if we make it second to the next stage would be enough and we can achieve that, so that we can focus the main strenghts in the league, which is now the priority.

However for that we must qualify, and in nowadays football you can't afford despising any rival, not to mention the french sides are always a tricky one. Not qualifying would be a major disaster, so I don't consider for a minute giving the likes of Paletta a chance for THIS game.

The kick off time is down to French TV not setanta. I think its because there is a full Lique 1 schedule tomorrow night so for tv the Tolouse game had to kick of earlier.

I'd be a little suprised if Gerrard starts. Although he will probably come on for part of the second half. I would like to see Voronin and Crouch given a start and also Alonso and Mascherano playing in the middle. This would be a weaker side than the one that played Villa but not that much weaker, and with a number of players eager to impress they should be up for it. Toulouse will deffinatley be up for this one though. They have just beaten the french champs Lyon and have nothing really to lose in this competition. For this reason Rafa may decide to go with a slightly more first team looking side.

You're right. And perhaps it is because it is going to be more than 35°C tomorrow afternoon in Toulouse that the kickoff is at 16:30 !  :D

Not sure why...but i have a bad feeling about this game. Our whole season will go sort of limp if we are to lose out to TOULOUSE..... so i think we have to put out our most "water-tight" lineup (i hate to say it....but putting gerrard on the right).

                Reina
   Finnan   Carra   Hyppia  Arbeloa
   Gerrard   Mascherano Alonso Yossi
          Torres
                  Crouch

Yeah...i know i said i hate gerrard playing on the right...but i think we have to play it safe against TOULOUSE. A mascherano & alonso midfield will provide ample support for our defense (we shouldn't concede any goals)....  So we should at least get a draw....

Anything more is a bonus.....

I would start with a strong team and only start to make changes if we are winning, i would play a similar team to Villa

                                           Reina

Finnan                  Carra                    Agger                  Arbeloa

Pennant                Alonso                  Gerrard                Babel

                           Crouch                  Torres
