Because what Rafa SHOULD have done was put Babel on WITH Keane and go for the kill.

Who he would have taken off in midfield is another story.

Reality check.  Spurs went to 4-4-2 at the start of the second half and promptly got overrun.  We looked far more dangerous in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half then we did in the whole of the first half and should have been out of sight by the time Carragher scored the OG.  That OG, by the way, was the reason the tide turned, not the Keane substitution.  We let them back into the game with that goal and gave them belief.  But for nearly 70 minutes, we were much the better team.

Spurs switched to a 4-4-2  at half time and they pretty much looked the better side going forward 15 mins or so into the second half...
Rafa then went ahead and took off keane when liverpool were still 1-0 up and playing the better football.. THERE WAS NO PRESSURE BY TOTTENHAM TO BE EASED... if anything we needed to go for a second goal to put the whole thin to bed and then start looking at taking out our importnant players and giving them a rest or whatever it is he was thinking !

Again Babel didnt do much in the chelsea game to suggest that he'd come on and do a job as a lone striker against a side that didnt even have possession at the time...defend the sub all you want but it was still one hell of a mistake in my opinion ! I dont blame Babel for not turning up... i dont think he stood any chance of 'turning up' or having any impact playing alone upfront against 4 .. im sure he knows his limitations and knows that he isnt quite the player to be played alone upfront when the team is 1-0 up and having decent possesion... chelsea game it was obvious that we needed as many bodies behind the ball and would play the hopeful long ball for ANY FAST PLAYER to chase down and quite simply hustle defenders higher up the pitch...

I think the idea behind bringing Babel on was the realistic (but negative ) idea that when we started hoofing the ball aimlessly up field, Babel would have the pace to get to some of them first. Similar in a way to how we used to bring Crouch on..... so he could win a few of the long balls hoofed up out of defence.

Whether you should question WHY we should start to hoof the ball up field when defending a slim lead late on is another matter.

Excellent - First defeat in prem since March and the blame game starts-Babel,Rafa,Keane,Xabi- have i missed anyone ?. FFS we have lost one game , we didnt take our chances when they came and we paid the price - it is always going to happen in some games - the important thing now is to react well to the defeat. we dont need to change much within the team or with the players just keep going .

Dirk Kuyt: We must be more ruthless - Liverpool FC latest
Nov 3 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

DIRK KUYT today admitted Liverpool need to become more ruthless in front of goal after the Reds missed a string of chances in Saturday’s defeat at Tottenham.

The Dutchman gave Liverpool the lead after just three minutes but a second half Jamie Carragher own goal and a last gasp winner from Roman Pavlyuchenko gave Spurs an unlikely three points.

Liverpool hit the woodwork on three separate occasions and failed to take other opportunities to put the game to bed.

And Kuyt believes Rafa Benitez’s men need to turn such dominance into goals.

“We made a good start when we took the lead early on and we controlled the game from then on,” said Kuyt.

“We should have killed the game in the second half because we had four big chances but we didn’t do that and then Spurs got two goals against the run of play and we lost the game.

“It’s unbelievable because we looked really good for a long time but then they got an own goal and then got a second from a throw in.

“Sometimes this can happen in football but we have to take our chances when they come along.”

Saturday’s defeat was the first time Liverpool have lost a league game under Benitez when they have led at half time.

It was also the first time they have suffered defeat in more than six months and Kuyt insists it is vital that the Reds bounce back from their disappointment immediately.

He said: “The most important thing we can do right now is to think about the future and put this game behind us because we are still joint top of the league.

“But next time we have to make sure we take these kind of chances and kill the game.

“It is a big blow to us because we did not deserve to lose the game.

“But now we have to put this game and this result behind us and look ahead to Tuesday’s game against Atletico Madrid.

“The manager has said we need to respond in the right way to this result and he is right.

“We can’t afford to let it get to us because we did a lot of good things against Spurs and there are a lot of positives to take from the game.

“Now we just need to keep going.”

Carragher echoed the sentiments of his team-mate by urging the Reds to get back to winning ways.

“Look how Chelsea have reacted since we beat them and how Manchester United reacted when they lost to us,” he said.

“They’ve been on a great run since. It’s how you come back from your setbacks that counts. This will be a test for us now.

“If you want to show you’re championship contenders it’s how you bounce back that matters.”

Meanwhile, Benitez remains hopeful that Fernando Torres will return to bolster his attack for the visit of Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish striker stayed behind at Melwood on Saturday to continue his recuperation from a hamstring injury picked up on international duty.

Atletico warmed up for tomorrow night’s clash with a 2-0 win over Real Mallorca at the weekend with Sergio Aguero scoring both goals.

Kuyt added that he was sick of carrying the other forwards and they can't expect him to score EVERY GOAL ! :D
