It's just that most great players in recent times have usually been snapped up before the age of 25 (let alone 27).

It's a good point but i'm pretty much sold on the lad. We desperately need a clever bugger in the side since losing Garcia. Torres pulls defenders all over the show, his movement affects the entire back-four so we could use a player who knows how to occupy and exploit this. Bennayoun is a good little squad player but he is a poor mans Garcia and i rate Arshavin above little Luis. He certainly won't give the ball away so much. Need to get in and buy the lad before the Euros though coz his price will rocket if Russia go well in the tournament.

I heard Man City were interested in him Scott

And every other player on the planet! I read they've put the entire squad up for sale this morning! Can't be good to be a City fan right now.

We should nick , johnson and ricahards , we've got a decent right back and a good back up to stevie , could get both for 12 to 15 million , heard johnson was 6 million , his price has been cut

I would go for deco, who's now available, or berbatov, who spurs are now resigned to let go, or santa cruz who we might be able to buy from blackburn before looking into the russian guy...

I woudn't be too keen on signing Deco myself, as for a start, he isn't really a second striker. He's pretty much achieved what he's needed to in his career, the desire to win and embark upon a new challenge won't appeal to him as much as say for example, Arshavin - someone who I think would be hell bent on succeeding with his new club. Arshavin has only ever played at Zenith, and that feeling of embarking on a new challenge at a great European club is a massive point in favour of signing him, as opposed to a player who's done it all already - i.e. a Morientes-type scenario in this respect. Even if consciously he expresses his desire to succeed at a new club, there will always be that feeling of having already achieved, of having reached the very top. Very few players of that age, who have already been at the top, go on to be very successful at a new club.

He's not in peak physical condition, far from it, and I've been unimpressed by his work-ethic for Barca this season.

Of course, he's a brilliant player, who without doubt would improve the squad, but I think we could find players, younger ones too, who are more motivated, in better physical condition and who would suit the second striker role a bit better.

I'd go for the Russian guy, defo.

Deco: "I'm not irreplaceable, there you have players like Lampard or Gerrard".

Which means that he pretty much makes the role of Gerrard in Liverpool, attacking midfielder, less focused in defence. But to be fair with Gerrard he works a lot of more than the Portuguese.

We don't need Deco because he's an important player and we already have a better player for that position and role: Steven Gerrard.

Well if were using the 4-2-3-1 system then Gerrard is Torres' partner. The system is getting the best out of our best 2 players. I think we finally may have found a way of playing that gets the best out of ALL of Gerrard’s qualities, if we do that we will be hard to stop.

And why not use Babel as first back up for Torres? After all he does fancy himself as a striker and it obvious he if more effective through the centre.

I don’t think strikers are too much of a worry, the 2 players either side of Gerrard is the biggest problem.
