He's picked up a strain at worst lad. They've released that statement for the element of suprise. If he's not on the bench for the mancs at least al be EXTREMELY suprised.

3 months MINIMUM with a torn hamstring. He wouldn't av walked off the pitch like he did either, am tellin ya.

Well we thought we could go to Portsmouth last season without our two best players and win, we chose to leave them on the bench. We didn't win of course, and that one match was probably the end of our title challenge for another year in that it showed we weren't going to give ourselves the chance to win it.

Two and a half months MAXIMUM recovery time for a severe hamstring strain.

It isn't that severe otherwise he wouldn't have walked off, but going by the statement it could be 2 to 3 weeks, and for that reason I don't think he'll be risked at all for the Man U game.

To play Torres if not fully fit against United with the injury he has would be very foolish.  We need him for the whole season and like what has happened to M.Owen, if rushed back before injury is completely recovered, will result in further injury down the line.  Worse kind of injury for Torres who relies on his pace, and at his age, cannot afford to start having problems with this on a regular basis.  As I have said in another thread, play Keane/Kuyt upfront, hope that Babel and Riera are played in their correct positions.  Give United something to worry about - give supply to the front men with plenty of crosses - hopefully Evra will be be too busy defending he wont have the time/energy to cause Carra problems

A large part of Torres' game is about pace and running the channels.  Eventually hamstring injuries will slow him down, as they have done with Michael Owen and many others before him.  History always repeats itself.

I can tell you now there is only one person who's fault it was that Owen is now like he is.

It ain't Michael Owen either.

Rushed back far to many times...

Can't believe I actually agree!

Owen was a victim of being rushed back to fitness and suffered the consequences. I'd rather be without Torres for 2 months that see him return too early and get injured for longer. Besides surely it is this exact scenario that Robbie Keane was partly brought to solve!?

The hamstring is the one body part you dont want to rush, if there is ANY doubt keep him in the stand i say.

Fernando Torres likely to be fit to face Manchester UnitedSep 9 2008

by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post

FERNANDO TORRES is winning his battle to be fit for Liverpool’s showdown with Manchester United on Saturday.

The Spanish striker was initially ruled out for “between two and three weeks” after suffering a hamstring tear during the goalless draw against Aston Villa nine days ago.

It meant Torres was instantly ruled out of the visit of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, as well as missing Spain’s World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Armenia.

But Liverpool’s medical staff have been encouraged by the speed at which Torres has responded to treatment on the injury.

And now the Anfield outfit are hopeful their club record signing will take to the field against the champions at the weekend.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

REST IN PEACE PHIL, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
