This week's signings - Any definite names coming from anfield?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

we havent really got any concrete evidence of anyone that we are interested in signing at the moment, all we can do is speculate until the news comes in, there are good reasons for all different players who could be coming to liverpool such as michael owen, jorge andrade, joaquin etc. and none of these are very likely to come here but just the same none of our supposed targets are completely unrealistic.

if we could get just 1 of andrade, joaquin and owen then i would be extremely happy especially joaquin although he is the most unrealistic of them all

right now we need to focus on, in order of importance, a centre back or 2, a right winger and a striker

yeah exactly, right now all we can do is sit back and just speculate until we get some concrete news on a possible signing, until then we can only talk about all the possibilities with my top 3 being andrade, joaquin and owen with joaquin being the only one there who could be unrealistic.

no one can say for certain that there is no chance a player will come here or that we are going to have to panic and act fast because time is running out, there is nearly a month left until the window shuts!

Spot on.  If as club we were on the continent top clasd players like Figo wouldn't think twice to join us, but the fact that we play against opposition like Blackburn, City and other such grime, they get put off.

i wouldn't say that was true. do you think milan players get all hot and bothered thinking about playing udinese, atalanta and lecce? the galacticos about playing getafe, betis and zaragoza.

it may be more along the lines of our humble city. as much as we love liverpool as a place an outsider is always going to choose somewhere like milan or madrid if he's looking for a place for himself and his model girlfriend to live. we just don't have the same kind of reputation. and i'm sure the average player isn't too @rsed about all the capital of vultures 2008 nonsense either.

Can you be a bit more realistic?

Upson- Birmingham want double figures for him, he's not worth that much

Joaquin- I don't think he fancies the Premiership and his price tag is a bit high

Stelios- We're not interested in him, confirmed yesterday.

Malbranque- Is he a right winger or is he a central midfielder?

Schweinsteiger- I'm sure Bayern will let one of their best leave

Kuyt- Made captain of Feyenoord, not going anywhere.

True!! Its the difference in culture that puts a lot off coming and fickle as it may seem the cooler climate plays a part too id say!

Definately the culture and climate that puts players off as the epl is a strong league throughout really so not to do withthe quality. Also the food even seems to put some off  :D

The Figo saga has been going on quite some time now so I am sure Rafa would have other targets as he couldn't have been that confident when dealing with Real and then Inter entered the fold. There is no way he would have put all his hopes of a right midfielder in Figo. The same goes goes with Milito. Players will come, let's be patient.

Just to clarify the point of this thread, which only one or two of you have touched on - I just wanted to know if any names other than Figo and Stelios (two avenues of enquiry that appear to have broken down) had emerged. Obviously there are several players that we on here would love to see come in, but I'm just trying to keep a handle on who exactly Rafa is enquiring about/actively pursuing.

Lately we haven't been linked with any new name as far as right wingers are concerned. Juanfran, U-21 Spanish international was Rafa's target last summer, in fact Benitez wanted Juanfran in the Owen deal. However instead of getting Juanfran we got Nunez.

Benitez might go after him again.
