thats your opinion mate but here`s mine.....
i had to sit through five years of the dullest football i have ever seen under houllier and watch the club i once saw dominate europe turn into a laughing stock with every half @rsed outfit`s fans shouting hoof at us. years ago away fans were scared to open their mouths because any minute a goal could go flying in to shut them up. but under houllier they took the :censored: and we just sat there because we knew it was true, we were a :censored: side. i`m liverpool through and through but i never thought i`d ever see the glory days again, i honestly thought they were gone forever.
but there was one hope, a local lad who wore number 17 who sweated blood for the cause and chased every ball down like he actually wanted to win the f@cking thing back unlike his team mates who wanted to shadow the opposition and admire their passing. a lad who wore the number 17 and showed the  liverpool players who sh1t a brick once derby games and dogs of war were mentioned that he aint bothered about playing everton cause he aint planning on taking any f@cking prisoners either. a local lad who gave us sitting in the stands the most important thing to football fans......hope.
in istanbul when we were 3 down he did what he`s been doing for seven years.......led from the front.
the lads had a lot on his plate and is obviously on a low but he`s made his decision and i for one am made up because when i was on a low on saturday afternoons he was there for me.

:bowdown  :bowdown  :bowdown Well said that man
p.s. why did you have to choose that ID its as stupid as mine only I get called ciggy now
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

You have got to realise that the boy has been wrapped in cotton wool all his life, he's never had to mature the way ordinary people do.
The modern day "star" footballers have everything done for then by the club, down to paying their gas and leccy bills. The clubs ensure that there are no distractions which is why they get so effin bored.

Gerrard is very immature, even for a footballer, he should never have been made captain and this latest fiasco is just another  sign that he needs to grow up. If Shanks had had him he'd have had him married off with kids by now so he would have had to show some responsibility.
But what do you do ? He is a great player and he would walk into any team in the world .Would you rather have him with us or against us?
I just have this horrible feeling that we've not seen the end of this matter.

i dont agree mate, dont forget unlike ordinary people the world and his dog knows steven gerrards business so it must be hard for him to escape some times. he had been offered the chance to earn more money than any other british footballer in the history of the game and if he went abroad the chance to live a lifestyle that we can only dream about. against this he had to take into consideration his love for the club he had supported from a boy and the weight of fans expectations hoping that he would show the outside world that loyalty still means a lot in working class communities even when weighed against the kind of riches of even king solomon wouldnt turn his nose up at.
he had lost a lot of the players at the club he considered close friends like danny murphy and others who he came through the ranks with like michael owen so the club might not have seemed so homely to him in recent times and the influx of a foreign coach and players couldnt have helped the situation. maybe he would have more in common with the large english international contingent at chelsea than the players left at liverpool? on top of this he probably had his advisors and the media telling him to leave and his family and friends telling him to stay. maybe his girlfriend wanted to go or maybe she wanted to stay he`d have to take that into consideration too. add to this people adding smoke and mirrors and you end up with a young fella who doesnt know if he`s coming or going which is exactly what we got.
thankfully he stayed.

In the long run I think this could be the best thing that could happen to liverpool fc.

If you think about it we still have one of the best midfield players around but with a point to prove and fans to win over , i think he will have a awesome season.

If he signed 2 or 3 days after the final he would of had all sorts of clauses in his contract ,now he has changed his mind with his tail between his legs he will sign a contract with no clauses in it stating that if rafa does not wipe his backside he will be off or something and I beleive will finish his footballing days here.

Yes I know its a bit of a farce now but give it untill xmas and we are 10 points clear of chelsea none of you will give a flying fck how many time he changed his mind .

I for one cannot be too upset with someone who wants to play for LFC despite all the attractions of moving on .

He is not going anywhere now so lets get behind the lad and forget your own feelings for the good of the club .

I just have this horrible feeling that we've not seen the end of this matter.

I've said many many times last season that I'd like to keep gerrard the player, but Gerrard the Captain is an absolute joke. We;ve just had the opportunity to do that and didn't. Why???

Stevie Me was prepared to to sign a new deal and give up the arm band. Surely that would have been the best solution all round??

Is there ever an easier decision to make??

I mean, we'd get to keep a good player (Gerrard) and also get a 100% reliable, consistent and unswerving loyal Captain in Jamie Carragher to take us forward.

Maybe it's just me, but this just seems really obvious. I reckon we've missed one of the best opportunities ever there, I really do.

As a manager I'm sure Rafa is relieved to have kept hold of Gerrard the player, but how can he not see that he's the worst Captain ever??

To me, making him a regular team player again (which the player himself was happy to do) would be the best thing that could happen to him, and for LFC. Me-me would get less attention from the media, and the new Captain, Carra, would be an unserving, 100% loyal and dedicated Captain who could truly lead by example.

Then Me-Me could just get on with playin footy again and get back to his best without the stress of being Captain. Hey presto, everyone's a winner. We get a good Captain, Me-Me starts performing again and we can start to be a team again and not the Steven Gerrard ego massage machine that we've become.

Can anyone on earth seriously say, with a straight face, that Carra wouldn't make a better Captain than The Ego? Seriously? I defy even his most ardent supporters to truly believe that.

Even Gerrard himself must now know that he isn't a good Captain as he offered to give it up!!

So, we can all see it, even Steven Gerrard can see it, so why the f#ck did we let him keep the arm band??? I reckon it's that that pisses me off more than the fact he's still here to be honest.

I said it last August and some scoffed, but I'll say it again now: As soon as we go on a bad run, or things aren't going the way Steven Gerrard wants them to be going, then how do you know that our so-called "Captain" won't be looking around again and getting unsettled.

Why take the chance?? He's already had one chance and the benefit of the doubt once before, and look what happened!!!!

Is that the attitude, confidence level and the vision that we really want in our Captain?? I wouldn't want that kind of worry if i was recruiting someone to work in a chippy, nevermind the Captain of one of the worlds greatest football clubs!!

A fair-weather employee is the worst kind you can have. But a fair-weather captain is just stupid.

I guess i have to live with the fact that the selfish idiot is still here, but surely it's an even bigger mistake that we didn't take the arm band from him when he offered it?

As you may be able to tell, I'm still wound up about the whole situation.

Oh well, walk on....

gerrards the captain because every player including jamie carragher looks to him for inspiration when we are in the sh1t.
you could take the armband off him but the players would still look at him as the captain. alonso has said as much today.

he is the one we came out with great determination against AC Milan in the second half and scored the first goal and lifted all the other players. He is a true leader and will even be better this time with all those contract problems behind him.

I have to say that as much as I like Gerrard the footballer, I really dont care for Gerrard the man. His whole demeanour is depressing. I doubt the lad will ever be truly happy at anything he does. I mean a smile would be nice once in a while, he should lighten up a tad. How he hung from the cross on the tv interview, the last 6 weeks have been the hardest of my life, i wouldnt wish them on anybody WHAT! lol. In that period he lifted the European Cup, then paraded it around his home town to the adulation of the hundreds of thousands chanting his name. He takes a holiday in Spain whilst banging his smoking hot blonde girlfriend and returns to be offered a £100k per week salary to do it all again. How he copes I just dont know. Theres just no pleasing the kid I promise you  :no

On the captain thing he wasn't happy to give it up, but he would have done. Maybe Rafa should have taken the offer, but it's obvious that SG's just a kid at heart - letting him keep the captaincy probably proved to him that the club were serious about wanting him.
I think he'll want to prove himself every game, and if he manages that no-one will live with us. He's bound to have a few bad games though, a sulk here and there at Garcia for another bad pass etc - and when he does the stinking PRESS will be full of stories about Gerrard is off all over again. So please compadres, don't spend next season looking to find fault, which will just add fuel to the story inventing scum's fire
