Martin Skrtel has settled in so well in the heart of the back four. His performance tonight in the San Siro was again impressive and he looks as though he is going to turn out to be a good buy. He has provided brilliant cover at center back and dosent look out of place at all.

Which of course leaves Rafa with a decision to make. Danny Agger will (hopefully) be coming back from injury soon and given his form last year would expect, if fully fit, to get back into the team. Throw Jamie and Sami in to the mix and its a nice problem to have to solve.

So what would you do? If all are fit, who would you have in the back four?

Carra and Agger for me although i dont think it will be long before im championing Skrtel ahead of JC, their both young and very modern in that they are pacey and comfortable on the ball yet they do all the ugly stuff well too.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

Skrtel certainly does.

Have you seen his face?

He's the second ugliest defender in football history.

carra and agger.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

It's difficult to say overall tbh, in terms of our centre-backs at this present moment I'd stick with Carragher and Skrtel. It depends on how Agger fairs when he gets back to full fitness, but assuming he manages to hit the same level of form we know he's capable of, I'd still pick him.

I'd generally stick with Arbeloa at right-back, and for now Aurelio at left-back.

It depends on their form, and to a certain extent the type of game, the time of the game, the opposition etc., but invariably that'd be the way I'd go.

i would drop arbeloa as simply i don't rate him
My back 4 would be carragher at right back , Agger in the middle with skrtel and riise on the left . Arbeloa , Finnan , Aurelio , Hypia for cover

Righto!

Broken record time... :p

       Carra   Agger   Skrtel
Alves                             Lahm

Sorry bout that....... Carra's still too young to make way for anyone just yet and both Agger and Skrtel are too good not be 1st team material.... Pluse... Gerrard, Masch and Xabi in the middle....

That's six of our current crop of best players. Including Reina and Torres, that's eight.... and not a single one of them on the bench!

Leaving 3 new players for next season.
:p :D :D

right now I would ease back agger in slowly and for skrtel to give way...

latter on I would ease skrtel back in the team and carra to give way if he's getting old...

Carra and Agger, as I think Skrtel is still a bit raw, and tends to ball watch and not anticipate. I think by next season however we may be looking at Carra moving to fullback and Skrtel and Agger being the central pairing.

I think Skrtel is a good buy. Although I wasn't 100% convinced by his performance last last, he seemed a little too comfortable on the ball when he had a striker on his toes. He could do with watching Carragher more and clearing his lines when he has the opportunity. He got caught out a couple of times, if it wasn't for some poop shooting and Reina's heroics we would of almost certainly conceded due to his errors.

Aside from that I think he has good potential, but not seen enough quality from him yet to suggest he warrants a start over Agger or to change the line up to accommodate him.

Skyrtel has promise for me but is a mile behind Agger and Carragher. Unless Agger doesn't come back, or Carragher either deteriorates quickly or moves to right back, Skyrtel is looking at eighteen months or so as a rotational option IMHO.

right now its carra and agger (caragger??) as the two CBs by a mile. give it 2 or 3 more seasons and we are going to be seeing a lot more of skrtel and agger is what i'm guessing, however this gives us a problem with carra. moving him out to right back is definitely not the thing to do with him when he's in his 30s - he has little pace, little crossing ability, and he doesn't have 2 hearts like cafu. right now arbeloa is the best bet at right back but i'm sure someone else will come in soonish, same with right back - aurelio for now but expect someone better.

if rafa is going to persist with the 4-2-3-1, and i hope he does, we'll be needing some quality fullbacks capable of giving us some attacking width. JC is an awesome CB but he certainly ain't that kind of fullback.
