The rafalution season 3 - Lay the foundation and they will come.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Ciggy » Thu Aug 31, 2006 9:08 am

If anyone would have said to me 3 years ago that Bellamy, Pennant, Crouch and its now looking likely Lucas Neill would be Liverpool players Id have asked them to get themselves certified :D But Crouch has turned out to be one of the most valuable members of our squad lets hope the others turn out to be the same.

So seven players in fifteen out, a lot of transformation to the squad at the moment.
The only game we have played well in up till now was against Chelsea if we are honest.
But it will all come good we done just enough against a very resilient Macabi Haifa, who had no intentions of coming out the blocks to play any football what so ever, they just tried to contain us and lucky enough for us even though we are not firing on all cillinders we managed to pull off what could have been a terrible banana skin.

Unfortunate injuries forced on us at the moment but would rather have them at the begining of the season than the end of it (touch wood).
And to be honest I am not happy with the stuttering start but in a way its better, because as soon as we beat Chelsea we where favourites to win the league.
And some fans went into overdrive but this is LFC and we never do anything simple, plus I prefer us being underdogs and doing things quietly cause its better when the media talk about someone else and let us get on with our business.

What tactics Rafa will have up his sleeve this season is anyones guess, and no one can certainly guess what team he will play.
Everyone talks about settled sides I agree to some extent, but then we go on and win bloody tropheys with all his chopping and changing so as long as we keep winning silverware who are we to complain?

The new boys will need some more time to settle in and we havent seen much of this Palletta fella yet to know if we can be confident enough in him giving Sammi or Jamie a rest.

Aurelio seems more of a wingback to me and our game against Newcastle away last season would give you some idea if Rafa has maybe this formation lined up sometimes again this season, Agger was excellent that day aswell, unfortunatly for him he has had some injuries so we havent seen his potential as such yet.
But attack from the back springs to mind like the Liverpool of old and I have a feeling that goal on saturday wont be his only one in a red jersey, I think this kid has a lot of potential and he can have a great future at LFC.

Most improved player Rafa has bought I would say Sissoko, boy did we miss him on saturday and we need him back for the derby to boss the midfield as Alonso doesnt seem himself at the moment and he is to classy when he's on form to be in the holding roll anyway he's not tough tackling and his miss timed tackles often end in him getting a yellow card for the wrong reasons as he is not your Robbie Savage is he?
He will regain his form no doubt and the best passer of the ball in the prem will be back for all to view in his glory.

Little Luis well he should be our highest scorer up to now :D
So frustrating misses the easy ones and then scores spectacular goals, a valuable member of the squad for Europe or to have on the bench when things arnt going our way, talking about the bench at last we have some quality on it something weve lacked for years now, we have the players on it to change a game, a bonus players that who will try and get into the starting eleven everyweek, and most importantly hungry players.
Players that have been at other clubs and never won a thing, well they have come to the right place LFC THE MOST SUCCESSFULL CLUB IN ENGLAND.

Player that we will miss this season: Didi Hamann.
Player to shine this season: Dirk Kuyt.

CMON U MIGHTY REDMEN.
3 points against the bitters please.

That's a thorough analysis :) good post.

I'll add something

If anyone would have said to me 3 years ago that Bellamy, Pennant, Crouch and its now looking likely Lucas Neill would be Liverpool players Id have asked them to get themselves certified  But Crouch has turned out to be one of the most valuable members of our squad lets hope the others turn out to be the same.

Nobody mentions it, but last year and the first year of Rafa, I read here several critics about Rafa bringing players from Spain, and that he didn't know well the English premiere league. I said then that I thought that was a temporary measure, but once he settled he'd pick English players too.

Bellamy, Crouch and Fowler are the proof of this.

Before Jumping to your High Horse this season......... Lets see where LFC finish this season shall we? CIGGY ???? ???

If by Xmas, we are out of the title race and competing for 4th,3rd,or 2nd!  then we will know that Rafa's ingenuity has not paid off.

By January we should be in the top 2/3 and no more than 9 points off the lead. If we are well away form this, then Rafa has done too much tinkering.

This season is the Key for Rafa, let's see where we are before making those judgements.

I hate these people who assume, stupidly, that because Rafa has won two La Ligas, that he is autmatically going to transfer that to Liverpool and the Prem.

We need to do the talking on the pitch and forget this fantasy stuff.

I dont think there is anything wrong with what CIGGY said, (although she should probably change her sig).Only kidding. :p
She is just putting her point of view across and a good little analysis of the team.Shes not predicting anything, just hoping for good fortune. And i think it is you that needs to get off his high horse.

great post ciggy .. and as for the bitter  bellend!!!!!!!!

we have all the components of a great team at the moment and it just needs for the lads to gel together as they did at time against west ham, when we do will will batter teams into submission with pace width and desire

as for the bitters they are just lucky that there are enough new teams up that will keep them up , an average team with st!te fans who are more concerned with us than winning anything   pr!cks
