Let's all hope that that "whisper" came from your imaginary friend, Necky the Giraffe.

We just got rid of a player who thought he was bigger than the club...why sign up a manager who would feel the same way?

I love mourinho, he's a portuguese lad and almost every portuguese has to love him, he is excellent at what he does. hate him for making chelski win, but admire him for his great work.

even so, he finds himself god and i don't believe someone who wins just for the sake of winning is a good move for us. we all love king kenny, and i find him the best man for the job.

like cptrios said, we just got rid of someone who doesn't understand liverpool is bigger than him, why bring another one? he might make us win something, but how would he do that?

Jose might win the title if he was manager of us but at what cost?  We'd have to pay the guy 12 odd million a year.  Pass and move would get thrown straight out the door.  Respect wouldn't be associated with us.  We'd sign 4 or 5 big awkward physical players.

He'd leave after 2 - 3 seasons.  He isn't a long term manager and only works for himself instead of for the love of a club.  Id much prefer to see Kenny stay in charge and pass his knowledge on.

And now magnificent read , BRILLIANT

Kenny Dalglish: I'd have lost the respect of the fans had I not helped Liverpool

REPUTATION means nothing. Character means everything.

For Kenny Dalglish, he could have sat back, done nothing, and his reputation would still have towered over Liverpool, city and club.

But his character wouldn't allow it. He knew the fears. Heard the sharp intake of breath the minute he took the job. Everyone wondering aloud.

What happens if he fails? What happens if, God forbid, the King's crown is tarnished? How can the man who steered them through so many highs, who was a colossus through the crushing heartbreak of Hillsborough, risk it all? How can they still worship him when it all goes wrong?

The corners of his mouth point south, the world's most famous facial shrug. He sees it another way.

How could they still worship him if he didn't even try?

It's Tuesday morning. A blinding winter sun disguises a biting wind as he walks through the door of Liverpool's academy.

There's only warmth inside though. There's not a person who doesn't grin like a giddy schoolgirl when he walks into the room. Secretaries, groundstaff, chefs, coaches, players. There wasn't a single kid walked past whose name he didn't know, or whose background he couldn't tell you offthe top of his head.

It's more than just respect Kenny Dalglish gets. It's love.

The feeling's mutual. If it wasn't, he wouldn't be here.

And it all shows. In the league table, the dressing room, the dugout, the stands. Liverpool has changed in a month. No more Roy. Just a little joy.

Unfortunately for Dalglish, his office has changed as well. The place he called home for his 18 months as a club ambassador before he moved back into the manager's office at Melwood training centre still has his name on the door.

"B******s nicked ma telly, though!" he says, pointing at a big blank space on the wall where a plasma once hung.

He should take it as a compliment. It's a clear sign they're not expecting him back any time soon.

"There was a bit of me hoping I'd never be asked," he said. "Because that would have meant Roy Hodgson hadn't been sacked.

"But I'm here. Someone said to me 'Was it a sensible decision to come back?' I knew what they were saying. That if it didn't go well for me, maybe it could ruin my relationship with the Liverpool fans. It's quite the reverse.

"If I never came back and at least had a go, I think it would have ruined the respect the supporters have for me.

"Every one of us wants to help the football club. I'm no different.

"It's only the position I have that makes me different. If I'd said no, it wouldn't have sat well with them, or sat well with myself.

"I just did what I said I would do all along - help when someone asked me to. I was only living up to my word, and if I'm not true to my word, how can I ask someone else to be true to theirs?"

Dalglish will turn 60 in less than three weeks. He's 11 years past his last stint in a dugout, his 18-game rollercoaster with Celtic. Sixteen years gone from his last league title with Blackburn. Another five further away from his last with Liverpool.

It's fair to say this is the only dugout he would have left the golf course for at this stage in life. Even if he takes a while to admit it.

Asked if he would get the big anorak on for anyone else, he bats it away. "That's hypothetical."

So no one else has asked? "Aye, other people have asked - I just never accepted. I'm glad I didn't take up the offers otherwise I might not have had the opportunity here.

"Although it came along in circumstances you never want to see, to come back was a real honour."

It's been a Godsend for Liverpool.

After a false start, four straight wins have seen them catapult from 13th to sixth in the Premiership.

And anyone doubting the passion burning in Dalglish to make a success of the club second time around only had to look at the 1000-watt smile on his face when Raul Meireles banged in the winner against Chelsea last weekend.

But it's not just a passion for the big occasion burning in him. Standing on the balcony of the Academy for two hours with him, perched on the railing like an old-school terrace, the first thing you realise is how much he loves the game.

He talks his way through it, all "awwws" and "ochs", all "good pass, wee man", all "go on, outside him... outsiiIIIDE".

Most of the kids here, he's actually played with, joining in at fives, making his presence felt. He loves the right-back John Flanagan. Flanno. He's 18, a Scouser, hard. A right chance.

And a knowing smile lights up his face when Suso comes on as a sub.

All balance and poise, the 17-year-old midfielder from Cadiz clearly has something a bit special.

Stevie Clarke joins him for the second half, the softly-spoken Ayrshireman a vital cog in the new Dalglish empire. Under-recognised and often undervalued for his work at Chelsea, Dalglish insists his impact has been huge.

He said :"It's not just the fact he's a fresh face - his face isnae that fresh!

"He's been so well received by the players, though, with the work he's doing on the training pitch.

"Why him, when I hadn't worked with him before? He's worked at the highest level, had success - he's been halfway round the block, I think.

"Me, him and wee Sammy Lee are all pretty close, we all have responsibilities, we all come up with ideas, throw them into the middle and try to find an answer in amongst them."

Most of the ones they've found so far have been right. Only time will tell about the big ones.

And they don't come much bigger than moving on an icon in Fernando Torres for £50million, then spending the lot on Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

Contrary to the thoughts of his old Scotland striking partner Joe Jordan - who told MailSport two weeks ago Chelsea and Man City's money had moved the goalposts beyond everyone else's reach - Dalglish reckons the game's still the same, it's just the numbers which have changed.

He shrugged: "There have always been differentials in football. Always been people wealthier than others.

"I don't think anyone has ever won a trophy without buying players. There's no difference to when I was playing, or managing the first time around. The numbers might be higher, but the principle's the same. It also doesn't guarantee you winning anything as there are more people with money now than there ever were.

"Transfers are part and parcel of the game. That's the way football works. Doesn't matter what the names are, people come, people go. You just make sure the names you have are the right ones for you and you get on with it."

Loosely translated: Torres is yesterday's man, Carroll is today's and tomorrow's.

Dalglish grinned: "He's a few weeks away so we have to be cautious but the ''

"He works at his football and what will endear him to our fans is that he's normal. It's a terrible word to use, but I don't know any other word for it - he's down to earth, no edge, not arrogant or dismissive.

"Just a guy who is good at football."

A bit like himself? No mibbes about it.

  Great read

by NORMAN GILLER
"I have to rub my eyes and ears every time I see Kenny Dalglish appearing in front of the television cameras in his role as born-again saviour of Liverpool. He smiles, he speaks, he jokes, he laughs.
Come with me back to February 1972. England under-23s had just been held to a 2-2 draw by Scotland at Derby’s Baseball Ground, and the fast-rising Celtic striker Kenny Dalglish had scored both Scottish goals on a disgraceful mudheap of a pitch.
I was there as a Daily Express reporter, and as Dalglish emerged from the dressing-room after his superb solo performance, I asked: “Have you ever played on a muddier pitch?”
“Nae comment,” he said, pushing me to one side as if I was an England defender trying to block his way to goal.
Ian Archer, brilliant Scottish-based reporter, told me: “Well done. You got two words out of him, which is a record.”
A great raconteur, Ian – sadly taken from us when he was just 59 – had a favourite Dalglish anecdote: “I was strolling through a crowded street in Glasgow when suddenly a familiar figure darted in front of me. It was Kenny Dalglish, who muttered one word: ‘Wisnae.’
“Then he raced off as quickly as he had appeared, with me mouthing after him, ‘Wisnae whit?’ I puzzled over this for hours and then recalled that in a match report the previous month I had suggested one of his goals for Celtic had been off-side.
“It was the most informative, piercing and lengthy interview that Kenny ever gave me.”
Now, the all-talking, all-joking 2011 model of Dalglish is in danger of becoming almost Shankly-like with quotes and quips.
I wonder if he would now tell me whether he had ever played on a muddier field than the notorious pigsty of a pitch at the old Baseball Ground. Wisnae?"
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

just read Kenny's pre-match sparta prague conference ... absolutely wonderful.

We all have a responsibility

Dalglish joked: "We'll just be sensible with the kids. I saw some of the stories in the papers about young Raheem. We've got a babysitter organised for him tonight at the hotel and he's doing his homework before he goes to sleep!

Carroll can play in the wafer cup when hes fit right?
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing

I'm not too sure what diference Carroll would have made tonight apart from holding the ball up better than Ngog managed and causing the defence a few more problems. The result was clearly paramount tonight because there was precious little pass and move football going on.

22 Feb 1991 indeed is the 20th anniversary of Kenny's shock, sudden resignation. I am happy he's back and I have no doubt if the owners and players can work in harmony with him, there is a real good chance we can be champions again within 3 seasons.

However I do have some reservations about whether Kenny will have the stamina and the resolve stay on for the long haul even if he's offered a permanent contract in the summer. Today I still don't know the real reason why he left us so suddenly though he cited job stress, but then any premier league manager's post is stressful. If that is the case why did he take up the Blackburn manager's post 9 months later? Plus, I still don't know why he left Blackburn soon after winning the premier league with them.

His Blackburn triumph in 94/95 showed his successes at Liverpool were no fluke or he inherited a strong squad from the Paisley era. I have no doubt Kenny is a football genius both as player and manager but from what I've seen, he has a peculiar tendency to quit his managerial posts all of a sudden while experiencing successes.

So I am still concerned on whether he will shock us all again one day with another bombshell resignation.
