I actually think our man is overdue (when he comes back) some sustained form. I know many will say he was playing well prior to his injury, but wide midfielders must score and create goals in modern football, and Pennant does neither anywhere near often enough for me.

He got 10 assists last season, and whilst you may feel that was not enough, it was the joint best amount from anyone in our team along with Gerrard.

I was making the point on here last night that whilst he may lack the goalscoring prowess, he contributes a lot in terms of flair and width. He helps us to create out of situations where the other wingers are failing or not equally apt because he always provides an outlet and helps us stretch the play.

Infact, I'd like to see the second half of last season's stats on how the team was doing when Pennant was playing. I think you might find an indication in the stats in what Pennant adds to the team. Where's Owzat? :D

wouldnt the injuries make kewell play longer? i mean he has had a long lay off so this could in fact prolong his career. he wont get any better but his current from would warrant a place in the squad

Trust me, within the next 5 games Liverpool play, Harry will score 1 or 2. He's really going after a goal, you can see it in the past few games.

Well, even though I agree kewell is our best choice left winger it doesn't mean much to me since Pennant is out best choice right winger. Rafa for some weird reason still hasn't understood that he doesn't have a Vicente in the squad and has to make the left and right wing positions a priority. So far he has put very little effort on improving that during his 3 1/2 year spell. Less actually than any other position even though they are crucial.

Sure, a top class winger cost around £15m but I still feel nothing has changed the past 3 1/2 years. We still need those top class wingers.
With Kewells high contract, his horrible injury record I'd only want him back if some criteria is reached.

1. He agrees to lower his contract considerably or pay as you play contract. If he chooses otherwise then good ridance and good bye.
2. He agrees he might be more of a squad player and impact sub/2nd choice.

His goal output is very poor and he isn't getting any faster.
(Putting him alongside Kuyt doesn't count since that would make anyone look lightning fast)

Kewell ?

For me its a harder shout, whether we should get rid of him or keep him. When talking about Kuyt, its simple he isnt good enough. My minds firmly made up about the Dutchman, as for the Australian its much more of a dilema. Because unlike Kuyt he does have quality and although he didnt show much of it against Man.C he still IMO is the best LM we currently have. Since his performance against City, he has been critised by some members in this thread who I'm sure 3 weeks ago were saying how bright and lively he looked during his cameo appearances as sub.
One poor game later, and he's gotta go.

He's injury prone and thats the problem and he's knocking on a bit, as a footballer. I think I'd only offer him a one year pay as you play extension. While searching the market for an adequate replacement. If he turned that down, that would be fine by me at least we know it isnt the football thats prolonging his career and the desire to play football. Like fellow countrymen Lucas it could end up coming down to money, and if Kewell wasnt happy with the deal, then he can polietly f.uck off IMO. We've had him for that long now, injured, we may aswell see if we can get some football out of him.

Who's this De Silva ? Is he a left Mid player and any is he any good ?

Please Saint no Kuyt bashing, he is a world class player and the best forward we've had since Rush, if he has an off game, just grin and bare it.

The only reason Kuyt's not scoring 25 goals a season is because hes playing under orders from Rafa. (If thats the case maybe we should sack Rafa  :D  )

its because alonso isnt playing, we all know the best passer the premier league has ever seen would be setting them up on a plate for kuyt

well if you believe what you read, he's on £60,000 a week on his current contract. nobody in their right mind in this country will pay him that so if he does leave i can only see him going abroad.

actually just had a thought. always injured. ridiculously high wages. expect newcastle to sign him soon. :D

I am not sure where this £60k per week comes from, the figures quoted by his agent were a £2million signing on fee + £40k per week. This would equate to £60k pw but only in his first 2years, after that it would be £40k pw.

which would be fair for the amount of games he has played  :rasp

he has to stay until we buy in the summer to replace him, we have no one remotely close to him as far as skill and flair on the left

He is our best left sided player, but the question is if he is the future of the club. Its a shame but his career has been ruined by injuries. I dont think he will get back to what he was, and with his injury record i dont think the club can depend on him. Might keep him on as backup and hope he stays fit, but if the club aims for the title we cant depend on kewell. That means splashing the cash on a quality replacement in the summer.

But Kewell has until summer to prove he is still the right choice for Liverpool and i hope he takes his chance.
