THE WORST in the prem, without a shadow of a doubt. shepherd is a muppet. he recently claimed that newcastle are "one of the top 8 clubs in the world".

also, the only reason he allegedly wanted to sign rooney last summer was so that he would have someone to go to all the local brothels with.

like i said weeks ago the boy will return   but to be honest owen may have put the price up on his transfer with his interview    the toons would never have bidded that much otherwise   we must hope rm dont demand the same sum that the toons offered  hopefully parry can sort something out quick  the press have stated this deal should speed up over the weekend    rafa has done my head in over this owen saga    but i think he was just trying to keep the money down       last of all djibril cisse  i think its the end for him if the owen deal comes off   it would be great to keep djibril and get owen  and the rw and the cb but i dont think thats possible   ps   i really hope rafa wants the boy back   im sick of hearing the press saying that parry and moores and the power men on the board made this decision   i will feel better when rafa comes out and speakes about this matter  ???

well it looks like he wont be heading to St james park. I think Newcastle have signed that striker, Luquie (sp) fella? :D

So, win the super cup tonight then sign Owen tomorrow and thats it, win the EPL, EC, FAC, FLC and the boat race. :D

I have this horrible feeling that we will get to the end of the transfer window and he will not be here  as much as I like Cisse I am not sure he is the long term answer  please let's not cloud our judgement on Djbrill out of sentiment (theres no way Rafa will!!!)  I think that we will unveil Kujt and not Owen for a variety of reasons  mainly because Michael left us in the lurch last year (Rafa will not forget this)   I am not angry at Michael anymore we all make mistakes and his was a whopper

Part of me wants Michael back part of me does not   the last time I was this confused was when the wife asked me to marry her

Newcastle have just about wraped up Luique --- this might signal that they are not interested in Owen any more as I dont think they can afford both players 10M + 16M

So Its Madrid or Liverpool

Parry admits Liverpool want Owen

Feature: Why Owen cannot lose
Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has finally admitted they do want to bring Michael Owen back to Anfield.

Boss Rafael Benitez has been low-key on constant speculation linking the England striker with a return from Real Madrid after only 12 months.

Newcastle have agreed a club record deal of about £17m, but 25-year-old Owen prefers a move back to Liverpool.

"It's not a no or a yes - there has been plenty of speculation and we will see next week," said Parry.

And Parry is pleased that Owen has publicly stated his preference for a move to Liverpool, despite Newcastle's determined efforts to do a deal.

He said: "We are always encouraged when players say they want to join Liverpool."

And Parry also dismissed suggestions a deal was being inspired from inside Liverpool's boardroom rather than by manager Benitez.

He said: "I want to stress there has never been a split between us or Rafa about Michael or any other players."

Liverpool, having sold Milan Baros to Aston Villa for £6.5m, may attempt to make room for Owen by selling Djibril Cisse, with both Monaco and Marseille interested.

Newcastle had hoped to persuade Owen to sign, but he made it clear he only wanted to join on loan - if Liverpool did not make a move.

Chairman Freddy Shepherd gave Owen a deadline of Thursday to agree to move, but it appears he is doomed to failure.

"There is not much more we can do. We are waiting to hear from Owen and his adviser," Shepherd explained.

"But it has to happen today or it's not going to happen at all, and we will be speaking to Michael's people."

BBC Sport understands Liverpool are not willing to pay more than the £8m Real splashed out to land Owen last summer.

They are expected to reveal their hand after Friday's Super Cup game with CSKA Moscow on Friday but the player would have to take a pay cut to persuade Liverpool to do business.

from football 365

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has dropped the strongest hint yet that the club could re-sign Michael Owen.

Parry has not ruled out the possibility that the club could bid to bring the striker they sold to Real Madrid last year back to England.

He said: "There has never been a split between us and Rafa over Michael Owen or any other player. It's not a no or a yes - there has been plenty of speculation and we will see next week. It's always encouraging when a player says he wants to come to Liverpool."

Owen wants to return to the Premiership and has said that would ideally be with Liverpool and not Newcastle, the only club to have so far bid.

Reds captain Steven Gerrard admits he would like to see Owen come back.

Gerrard, speaking after watching Liverpool drawn in the same group as Chelsea for the Champions League group stage, said: "Fingers crossed! It's obviously up to the Liverpool manager, but everyone knows what I want."

The issue could be made clearer if Lyon or Monaco, who have both been linked with moves for Liverpool's French striker Djibril Cisse, were to make a firm approach for the player.

I think now that Parry has bascically admitted he wants Owen is a good enough signal that the club are gonna try and sign him which mean the funding must be there in one form or anothert cos Parry would not have sadi anything otherwise - i mean come on Rick Parry is a clever guy.

Also that fact that its only Liverpool now in for him MO will be much happier so agreeing personal terms shouldnt be a hassle. Aparently the RM cheif has said to MO he will help him get back to Liverpool. Barring a right :censored: up i think its safe to say thet MO will be in a Liverpool shirt this time come next week. Rafa may not have been too keen on the fella when he left but one thinkg Rafa has seen is that all of his strikers (except crouch) are scoring on a a limited basis and in general finding it tough. Im sure Rafa is well aware of Michael Owens scoring capabilites and this is why i think he and Parry ahev agreed to get him back - hence Rick Parrys comments yesterday.

Another option although unlikely but possible is that someone else may come in and hijack a deal. Possibly Man Utd, Arsenal, an Italian team. This idea seems very slim to none.  Overall chance of MO being a Liverpool player by next Wedsnday - 99%

They have signed Luique for 9.5M but remain adamant that their offer for Owen still stands. They have people talking to Owens people.

Marselle have said the would sign Cisse in a jiffy if avaliable and are waiting patiently for more info.

NUFC have offered madrid 16M for Owen.

Where did they get all this money from? 5M+ for parker, 9.5 for Luique, ready to pay 16M for Owen + Emre --- thats a good 35M !

Newcastle boss Graeme Souness has confirmed he remains in the race to sign England striker Michael Owen despite the arrival of Albert Luque on Tyneside for a medical.

Souness, who also confirmed the Magpies have made an inquiry about Dutch international Dirk Kuyt, hopes to have 27-year-old Luque in the squad for Sunday's Barclays Premiership clash with Manchester United at St James' Park after the Magpies agreed a £9.5million fee with Deportivo La Coruna.

However, he revealed at the weekend that even a successful move for Luque would not satisfy his need for an out-and-out goalscorer, and that search goes on.

"Our offer for Michael Owen is still on the table," he said. "We have spoken to his advisors and they are considering our offer.

"I have not been involved in the negotiations, so that is as much as I can tell you."

Souness was refusing to take anything for granted as Luque underwent medical checks, but is hopeful the deal, which he admitted on Tuesday looked to be off, will be completed on Friday.

"He is here having a medical as we speak and obviously, we are trying to push it through to make him available for Sunday's game. With medicals, you never know, but there has not been any indication of any problems."

Newcastle need goals and greater creativity after failing to score in any of their first three Premiership games, and Souness hopes Luque will bring both.

"He will bring a number of goals and he will bring us a bit of width if we choose to play him on the left side," he said. "He is naturally left-footed and he is a wonderful striker of the ball. He will give us the little bit of class we have been missing in that area."
