The great anfield summer clearout - Should they stay or should they go?

Personally I'd sell Konchesky, Aurelio, Poulsen, Cole, Maxi, Jovanovic and Ngog if we got decent offers for them. I'd also consider selling Skrtel depending on the price offered for him.

We desperately need a new left back, a commanding centre back, a top class defensive midfielder and one, maybe two out and out wide men.

I agree with most of that, problem is finding a buyer.
Who is going to buy Aurelio for instance?

Taye Taiwo
Yann M’Villa
Ashley Young
Adam Johnson

I think those 4 signings would dramatically improve our team and are realistic targets.

GK: Reina, Jones
RB: G.Johnson, Kelly
LB: Taiwo, Insua
CB: Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Wilson, Ayala
RM: Young, Maxi
LM: A.Johnson, J.Cole, Sterling
DM: M’Villa, Lucas
CM: Gerrard, Meireles, Shelvey, Spearing, Suso
CF: Carroll, Suarez, Kuyt, Pacheco

There is obviously still areas to improve but we have to be realistic and I think this squad would do us good for next year

Oh and from that list I think its fairly obvious what deadwood I think should be moved on!!

Ideally keep Reina ,Gerrard ,Suarez and Carrol and ship the rest out (Not including youngsters).

But because we can't buy a complete new team then i'll leave Agger ,Soto ,Cole and Meireles. Maybe Johnson.

We need at least 6 new players ,which would bring us to a squad of 15 players + our new young prospects. (Kelly, Jonjo...)

Out:
Konchesky
Poulsen
Jovanovic
Maxi
Ngog
Skrtel (maybe)

In:
CB or LB - doesnt matter which position as long as he is very good. if we get a CB Agger/Carra can partner and Kelly/Johnson on either side. If its a LB, id move Kelly in as CB to partner Agger/Carra.
Winger x 2 (or maybe a creative midfielder that can play anywhere accross the midfield)
DM

id have the majority of our kitty spent on these ^

Striker (maybe as backup....)

Pace is a must with whoever we land....we severely lack it in our team. And rather use the money on less risky targets.....if thats even possible.

I would get rid of the following in this order:-

1.) Konchesky
2.) Poulsen
3.) Carragher
4.) Cole
5.) Jovanovic
6.) Maxi
7.) Aurelio
8.) Ngog
9.) Skrtel
10.) Soto
11.) Kuyt (or maybe keep only if played as a backup striker!!)

Not sure about all the younger squad players, but I would get Aquilani and Insua back from loan!

The new look Liverpool squad should consist of the following players plus a number of high quality new players in the summer.

1.) Suarez
2.) Carroll
3.) Gerrard
4.) Meireles
5.) Lucas
6.) Kelly
7.) Agger
8.) Johnson
9.) Reina (think he will leave though)
10.) Aquilani
11.) Insua
12.) Wilson (as a CB)
13.)Spearing (local and a good squad player)
14.) Suso
15.) Sterling
16.) Pacheo
17.) Jones (back up keeper)

Probably a few other youngsters to keep as well.

In the summer we need two top class wingers, a world class left back, one maybe two top class central defenders and a world class defensive midfielder. We may also need a top class decent back up striker to Carroll, Suarez and Kuyt.

We seriously need to clear out the driftwood and passengers in the current squad. There is no room for sentiment. Even the likes of Carragher should be shipped out because his style of play is detrimental to the team. We need more defenders of the quality of Agger...with better fitness records!! I am unsure on Kuyt, as he bleeds Liverpool!! Think he would be good as a third striker, but should be nowhere near the wings!!

We need pace and quality throughout the side and I hope NESV, Kenny and Comoli address this!!

If we sign a backup striker I'd rather have us not spend much money at all. I think that Kuyt is a very solid backup and we have two very promising youngsters (Sterling and Suso) who can be slowly worked into every-day bench roles (and beyond).

Well, we are linked with Scott Dann these days and I think he is a reliable defender, a Liverpool supporter too,  but I do believe we should go for Gary Cahill.

i was just thinkin maybe a young backup as an out-and-out striker, like Ngog, but better ha.....would be ideal to promote  within the ranks, will see how good this Morgan kid is in the reserves, but he may go the Mellor route....

Think sterling is a bit young still,....Suso, and maybe Pacheco depending on how well he does will be options next season....from the bench....all need to bulk up tho.
Also Shelvey, who will be back but not sure what role in midfield he will be moulded into yet. Cant forget young Ince too......but how many of these young talents can be trusted to take the next step? hard to tell....Kenny will know best tho.

I like Scott Dann.....good player and very consistant.
Charlie Adam is a quality player, but wouldnt overspend on him....

This PSV winger we're linked to seems promising, but with any foreign talent.....dunno how he will settle in the prem. Ashley Young im sure would improve our squad, not sure how much better he can be tho....

I would spend more on what we need, to ensure we get the right players. And that would mean wingers/LB or CB....maybe even DM

thats the million dollar question.
i really doubt we will land the targets that we want this year as they are linked with the likes of manure, chelski and spuds and all 3 will pay the wages that we wont and offer the football that we cant.
out of cahill, young, johnson,mc carthy, adam and hazard.if we end up with two out of them id be surprised.

Which is why, thankfully, it'll be a gradual rebuilding of the squad, not this create a brand new team and expect it to be successful idea that seems to have infected this thread.

A first choice CB, a decent LB and a quality winger for either side would be incredible work, and probably more than we should expect, especially if our hands are full replacing Reina in summer. Hopefully he'll see the signs and stay around.

I think priority is (in order): Left Wing, Left Back, Right Wing and Defensive Midfielder.

Hence my earlier post of Adam Johnson, Taye Taiwo, Ashley Young and Yann M’Villa. I like the idea of starting with Young on the right and Adam Johnson on the left to give us that width we've been missing. In games where this is not working, get them to switch wings meaning they will cut inside more hopefully freeing up space for Glen Johnson (or Kelly) and Taiwo to overlap more.

I think we can get by next year with our current centre-backs.

Any Thoughts?
