The dirk kuyt debate....is he good enough?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby LittleHobo » Sat Apr 21, 2007 11:04 pm

firstly i personally think he is good enough, this is his first season....(many players who go on to be great premiership players really struggle first season...ronaldo, henry, drogba....to name but a few

kuyt however in his first season is currently 5th top scorer in the premiership, outscoring these players

Yakubu
Anelka
Bent
andy Johnson
Lampard
shevchenko
berbatov

kuyt isnt even used as an out and out striker for us either

dont doubt dirk, for a first season i say he has done very well

next season he will do better.

he's had a decent first season in a new league. definitely has enough ability to do greatly for liverpool. the kind of goals he scored today are the sort that he scored week in week out in holland. i hope he'll go on to score many more for us and i'm pretty sure he will.

his willing to perform in a role which is alien to him whilst still adapting to a new league shows a great attitude and i'm sure that his persistence and professionalism will be rewarded next season. my guess is that voronin will be used in the role kuyt has played so well, so admirably, this season. kuyt will be allowed to psuh on further forward, and be allowed to get many more goals for us. 11 league goals as a "second striker" suggests that he will be able to get 20+ if he is used properly by the gaffer.

One time, I saw a man looking at me, yes, with his eyes. And then, he, he picked up a tube. And he looked, in the tube, and he made the moon big, inside the tube. The moon big inside a tube! Waahaha... Aaah. Telescope.

Hes done very well for his first season and has done what Rafa has asked of him in terms of workrate and hes also got a decent amount of goals. I find it amusing that people on this forum are saying hes no better than Cisse, he scores just as many goals and does so much more for the team.

He needs to sort out his movement in the box, again today he looked static in the area. Hopefully a good preseason and some work on his left foot and movement may pay dividends.

Two good goals today.

As I said earlier in the other Dirk Kuyt thread... Good player, but not good enough to win you a league title.

I've only seen MOTD's pitiful clip of the game but he did take his goals very well, especially the second one. He has looked a little 'lost' in the past couple of months (certainly in front of goal) which has led to discussions like this. However I think his first season can be considered a success to a degree.

Okay he's not bagged 20 goals that we'd all hoped he was gonna get but his tally so far is respectable for the role he's played. His overall workrate cannot be questioned but as for leading out front line in a premoership assault I do feel that he may be found a little lacking.

Overall - B Has shown plenty of willing but still room for improvement.

His workrate is excellent, as is his committment.

His finishing is lacking, but he is no worse than any of the others - Robbie apart.

He needs to improve next year.

Definitely needs to score more goals, and improve on his away record.

Kuyt

Home - 10 goals in 22 appearances (0.455 goals/app)
Away - 3 goals in 22 appearances (0.136 goals/app)

Premiership - 12 goals in 33 appearances (0.364 goals/app)
Europe - 0 goals in 8 appearances (0.000 goals/app)
Other - 1 goal in 3 appearances (0.333 goals/app)

Overall - 13 goals in 44 appearances (0.295 goals/app)

Strangely all his yellow cards have come in Europe so cards lead 3-0 over goals!

It takes some players a season to get into the premiership style of play. I wont listen to any people shouting about ability blah blah blah.

hes under acheived no the scoring front this season:

Total (Club) 44 (10) 13 3 0
League 33 (7) 12 0 0
FA Cup 1 (0) 1 0 0
League Cup 2 (2) 0 0 0
European/Others 8 (1) 0 3 0

his workrate is second to none tho and we'll have to see how he does next season. he gets in positions and should be scoring more, and i think hes a definate asset to the club. Id like to see how some of our other strikers would cope when it comes to the work rate issue, and hitting the ball in the back of the net will come more often for the lad next season.

I think a lot of people heaped too much expectation onto Dirk on his arrival, this has maybe put him under more pressure than he'd wanted. However, his season so far has been slightly better than average. The commitment, attitude and definitely his work rate are there for all to be seen, he just need's to work on finishing and possibly positioning. He tend's to go for power over accuracy a lot of the time, his positioning is ok, but could be better.

Overall, I'm banking on him having a better 2007 / 08 season. He's still on a learning curve and playing in a superior league against tougher opposition than what he was used to, now that he will have 38 games under his belt he'll no what's expected of him.

I'm wondering how effect much his wife's pregnancy had on his form. He seemed to go off the boil a bit towards the end of it and wasn't scoring (insert innuendo here). Since his son was born he's looked good and obviously scored yesterday. Could it all be linked?

Edit: i missed a word out  :upside:

You won't listen to anything about ability because you don't have a clue/understanding of the game whatsoever.

Its as simple as that.
