The cisse rumours. - Anything in it?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby bigmick » Thu Aug 18, 2005 9:12 am

The whispers have been kicking around for a few days now. I know the tabloids and even the broadsheets print sh!te, but there has been no denial from Anfield and it has appeared now in a number of papers.
If there IS anything in it, is it a good move? My suspicion has been from the very early stages that we paid way over the odds for him (I think we'd get maybe 7 or 8 mill tops if we sold him tomorrow) but despite this, I like his attitude and think he is showing promise with every game. My preferred option, if cash is tight would have been to sell Morientes (I think we'd get our money back to to a Spanish club), keep Baros and sign Owen. I think then in Baros, Owen, Crouch and Cisse each striker would offer something different.
Surely if we sell Baros AND Cisse then we are left with three strikers and will be relying on the likes of Mellor if we sustain injuries.
The only justification for selling Cisse in my book would be to sell him to Lyon as Houllier would probably pay through the nose to get him and to prove he was a good signing in the first place.

benitez would be a fool to sell cisse now and i would lose a lot of respect for him if he does sell him. crouch and morientes up front next season how wonderful, youve got a bright idea there havent you rafa. i just hope these rumours are rubbish now and cisse will stay and i wont have to slag off rafa for the 1st time

As Ive said before if Rafa is even contemplating selling Cisse, I will also lose a lot of respect for him, we need 4 quality strikers, so we can have Cisse/Crouch/Morientes/and Owen?, also Pongolle and mellor as backup.
MO played excellent with Cisse in the pre season tour last year, Rafa would go down alot in most Liverpool fans estimations if he sold Cisse, he has class, the right attitude, and he will be excellent this season IF he is played as a forward and not a winger.

Nah, its rubbish because Houllier is back in management, its the close season, he signed Cisse for us and never got to work with him and hes got some dough, dont read anything into this, its just paper talk.

I just don't understand all this cr3p going round about Cisse, the lad has hardly played for LFC and it's not like we've got quality players coming out of our ears :(

Houllier would pay through his nose for anything half decent. Then, he'd play the poor fellah out of position. then, if it didn't work out, he'd drop the poor guy. If it did work out, the poor guy would be stuck there forever...

I really don't think there's any truth in these rumours. Cisse's eagerness to make a swift return from such a serious injury proves to me the man has a real desire to play for Liverpool Football Club. Take last season for instance look at the difference in attitude between Cisse, who was banging Rafa's door down in order to play some part in the latter stages of our CL campaign, and a player like Robben who did his best to talk his way out of the CL semi. This attitude went a long way with me and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been wasted with Rafa either.

I feel Cisse is now begginig to rediscover some of the sharpness he had in abundance at Auxerre, and will move on to greater and greater things this season. IMO it would be foolish to offload Cisse at this stage in his Liverpool progression and as we all know Rafa is no fool.

LYON BID FOR LIVERPOOL'S CISSE
KOP Talk 18 August 2005

Newspaper reports today claim that French outfit Lyon have tabled an offer for Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse.

It is claimed that Lyon boss Gerard Houllier is offering us former Arsenal striker Sylvain Wiltord plus £4million in cash for Cisse who cost a club record £14million when signed from Auxerre in 2004.

If the reports are true, we can only laugh them off because what idiot would allow Cisse to leave for so little and so soon?

While Cisse is yet to convince us that he's right for the club, there's no doubting his ability. Obviously we have to take into consideration that horrific injury so it will be some time before we start knifing him if he doesn't deliver.

Cisse is settled at Anfield and in the city in general and wouldn't want to move back to France at this stage of his career.

I hope LFC are reassuring Cisse about this ridiculous situation as we speak, don't be surprised if we hear something soon in retaliation about these rumours. You tell em Rafa, tell em hand's off OUR Cisse!

It would be a bad bit of business, though I see why it would happen.
A line up of Owen, Morientes, Crouch, Pongolle would be enough for Benitez. He might find it difficult to buy Owen when Cisse is already here, they are very similar players.
But he cost 14m, hasn't had a chance to prove himself yet, it would be criminal to sell him for less now.

Just read the BBC report saying that Rafa is planning on buying Owen after selling Cisse to Lyon and Baros to Villa. I would like to see Owen back but if it means selling Cisse sorry no can do. Why not sell Pongolle and Baros to make up the Owen asking price.
