This mirrors two seasons ago, remember? Kewell had not played since Christmas, and Benitez then goes and puts him straight in the side for the Final. That was Bizzare.

And I hope he does not do that this time. To be honest, Kewell has not done enough to warrant an immediate starting place return. He's been injured for about 2 seasons, and has shown little good form, when he is fit.

we have to play the strongest side.

         Reina,

Finnan Carra  Hyypia/Agger  ardebola

Gonzalez  Alonso  Sissoko   Riise

               Gerrard   Kuyt

MAybe Crouch in there somewhere.

Not sure about Mascharano, he gives the ball away cheaply sometimes, and against Kaka, Pirlo and Guttuso, we will get punished severely.

Remember 2005 first half?

Our stongest side would have Gonzales playing on the right and Gerrard as a stiker?  ???  Maybe we could put Crouch instead of Arbeloa as right-back   :shifty

with kewell fit i think this is an interesting look at solving the 3 CM "problem"
                     Reina
   Finnan    Carra     Agger    Riise
       Gerrard  Mascherano   Alonso
Pennant                               Kewell
                      Crouch

The more common  solution would be the 4-5-1 with Gerrard in the hole, but here he is still on the right sorta, and sorta in the centre where he can have a bigger impact on the game.  Pennant on the right can send in his crosses plus pull the defense out wide to open  up Stevie cutting in or crouch in the middle or kewell on the far post.  However, I think that this formation is probably more ideal with more of a goal scoring threat at RW, in which case i think Bellamy with kuyt in the middle is another option.
I know that it wouldn't make any sense to play with a formation in the CL final that hasnt been practiced all year, but luckily for everyone that supports LFC Rafa doesn't base his judgements on my newkit squad selections

From the Times, if anyone listens to the Times 'Game' podcast on a Monday then they will know that it is a great programme, one which i look forward to every Monday.

Well tonight (7PM) they're doing a champions league special hosted by Guillem Balague and Gabrielle Marcotti featuring Rafa, Carra and Pepe.
------------------------------------------------------------

TheGame: Champions League Special
With Gabriele Marcotti and Guillem Balague

Gab and Guillem debate, or rather argue over, the Champions League Final between AC Milan and Liverpool on May 23rd in Athens. They preview the rematch of the incredible 2005 final. As well as hearing how Athens is gearing up, and what happened on that night in Istanbul they'll be talking to Rafa Benitez, Jamie Carragher and Pepe Reina. Plus they'll be debating the tactics of both managers and also revealing which one of them can't count.

To live the impossible dream - who said dreams don't come true !

From .tv:

Robbie Fowler has confessed he still has to pinch himself at the thought of playing in a Champions League final with Liverpool.
Fowler was sat in the stands at the Ataturk Stadium on May 25, 2005, when the club won its fifth European Cup.

If you'd have told the then Man City striker that two years later he could be donning red in the final himself, he'd have laughed his head off.

"I was in Portugal on holiday and met up with Steve McManaman to travel over to Turkey, where we also met up with Steve Harkness," the 32-year-old told LFC Magazine.

"Sitting there in the stands, watching the game from a fan's perspective, I remember thinking the chance to take part in a game like that with Liverpool had well passed me by. I'd never have dreamt of this back then.

"Who knows, I could be sat in the stands again this time! But just having the chance to be involved in the Champions League final as a Liverpool player again is surreal for me."
