THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL - AC MILAN VS LIVERPOOL

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I am dissapointed about not winning it this year but thats football. We dominated the game this year and we had a few chances going begging but just didnt finish them. Congratulations to milan though. Also i think Mascharano was great last night he stopped Kaka playing at his best and when he went off Kaka went back to being himself again.

Well, I'm gutted, gutted we played as badly as we did, but were still the better team by a long way, and lost.

I was disappointed to see the line up, I don't think it makes the most of Gerrard's abilities, and I wanted Crouch to start.  I had no problems with Zenden starting, with Kewell replacing him, but I had to admit I wanted to see Kewell start as I was worried he'd be off injured in 20 mins.  Despite my misgivings though, we were the better team, so I can't really complain about the way we lined up.

I was disappointed in Pennant, who really never stepped up to the level he has shown recently, and we generally were poor all round.  I remember wanting the back four during the second goal and none of them seemed to chase back.  I was surprised to see Carra basically give up.  Now even if our defenders had of chased back they almost certainly would have been too late, but it was the lack of urgentcy that concerned me.  For some reason we didn't seem to be focused on the game.

Perhaps the longish break between this and our last game (made longer by Rafa resting players a little) led to a lack of momentum?

We know there are some gaps in our team, up front and on the flanks.  And S@int and others are right, Rafa does tend to make substitutions too late.  But in the end this game was there for the taking and on the strength of what I've seen this year, the team in red on the park last night should've been good enough to take it.

I'm gutted.

1. Kuyt is not good enough! I know people think he's hardworking and run after everything but he does nothing really. His first touch is bad.

Do you think that part of his lack of goals was due to adapting to the Premiership? It would be a shame to sell him to Newcastle to see him suddenly perform... Remember that prior to this season he'd only played in the Dutch league...

Hmm, I'm not sure. I heard he was good in the Dutch League right? I was quite excited about him at first but he had a pretty consistent starts compared to the other forwards and he's still not scoring goals like we would want him to. It would be weird if we sell him to Newcastle and he starts scoring though. LoL.

He was top scorer in the Dutch league for 3 years in a row...

The Dutch league is more physical than Spanish and Italian, not not much as the English league.

I think now he's had a season to adapt (squad rotation prbably didn't help), he should be allowed to show his class.

also judge there was a substitution during injury time so an extra 30 seconds should have been added, robbed of nearly one minute

isnt it true that by bringing mascherano off, that left space for kaka to exploit, that led to inzaghi's second goal ??

I can think of a few reasons to complaing about the match and why we shouldn't have lost, but I just can't be bothered.

Of course the free kick was lucky and I was as gutted as anyone about that as it was a major boost for them. But you have to think to yourself - THIS IS FOOTBALL.

But I will admit that after the match last night I just went upstairs and cried out of frustration. I believe we deserved more.

Anyway, Milan 1-1 Liverpool

yes judge that is the case, mash had the better of kaka all game, removing mash gave kaka more freedom, a substitution had to be made to bring on a forward (made too late in my opinion), i think it would have been better to remove alonso

I wouldnt mind so much but milan were :censored:! i mean Kaka, seedorf, rino, ambrosini were spectators for most of the match.

Nobody let zenden leave liverpool without me paddling his behind! I mean if u aint going to do anything then at least buy a ticket like everyone else and watch the match!
Pennent went up in my eyes and masch made some cracking tackles.
Jury out on kuyt....

i was thinking at 70 mins to bring in crouch and bellamy, remove alonso, keep mascherano on, and take off zenden.

but what do i know

my thought exactly, bring the two players on that would trouble their defence while keeping kaka quiet in midfield.

very short posts from you today judge

:D  arent they always

plus if we had got the equaliser, then bring on hyypia and take off the tired carragher, and reshuffle the defence. may have been a better option, imo
